Funding Opportunities and Events
Dear Members of the Notre Dame and the Indiana University School of Medicine-South Bend research communities:
Thank you for your continued interest in the Indiana Clinical and Translational Sciences Institute (Indiana CTSI). We hope that you are able to take advantage of the available Indiana CTSI funding for your research like this recent success story:
In 2016, Olaf Wiest, professor of chemistry and biochemistry at Notre Dame, and Robert Stahelin, formerly of the Indiana School of Medicine-South Bend now the Retter Professor of Pharmacy at Purdue University, submitted for and received seed funding from the Diagnostics and Therapeutics Development project development team (PDT).
After that initial funding, the PDT also reviewed subsequent NIH grants that they submitted. This year, the duo reached their crowning achievement in that regard when they received an NIH R01 grant!
Please see the full list of available funding opportunities and upcoming events below. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to co-navigators Jessica Brookshire or Paul Helquist.

Pilot Funding for Research Use of Core Facilities
Deadline: September 27, 2021
The Indiana CTSI Pilot Funding program is intended to promote the use of technologies and expertise afforded by the Indiana CTSI Core Facilities available at all partner institutions. Successful proposals will demonstrate outstanding scientific merit that can be linked to generating extramural funding or novel intellectual property (IP). The success of the program will be viewed, in part, by the fostering of newly funded grants or providing significant contributions to grant renewals. Therefore, proposals will be judged with equal measure on scientific merit and the likelihood of generating new IP or extramural grant support.
  • A maximum of $10,000, usually used for projects over the span of two years, can be requested.
  • The funds can only be applied to the utilization of designated Indiana CTSI core facilities only. Information describing each core is available here.
  • A letter from each Core Director where service is required and must be included in the application.

Activity-Based Therapy Program for the Indiana Traumatic Spinal Cord and Brain Injury Research Fund

Deadline: November 1, 2021
This program aims to foster and encourage activity-based therapy programs for the prevention, treatment, and cure of spinal cord and traumatic brain injuries, including acute management, medical complications, rehabilitative techniques, and neuronal recovery.
The initiative for funding activity-based therapy programs consists of two funding mechanisms:
  1. An RFA for programs providing rehabilitative clinical care and employing “activity-based” approaches for traumatic spinal cord injury persons
  2.  An RFA for programs providing rehabilitative clinical care and employing “activity-based” approaches for traumatic brain injured persons
Applications for each RFA may be submitted for up to a maximum requested amount of $150,000 for the total duration of the project. Programs must be conducted in compliance with all state and federal laws.
