How to Be a Competitive Fellowship Applicant

Wednesday, January 17 at 3:30 p.m. in University Hall, ECC 1857
This one hour session will cover basic fellowship application strategies, including identifying opportunities relevant to your goals, requesting letters of recommendation, and writing personal statements. Undergraduate and graduate students of all majors are welcome to attend. Space is limited. Register here.
Reminder: Walk-In Hours for the Fulbright UK Summer Institutes
January 18 and 22, 3:00 p.m.- 5:00 p.m.
The Fulbright UK Summer Institutes are three-to-four week, fully-funded summer programmes for US freshmen and sophomores. Participants can explore the culture, heritage and history of the UK while experiencing higher education at a UK university. Must have a minimum 3.7 GPA to apply.
Students may walk-in with general questions OR bring drafts of their applications for review. Drop by or email ONIF with any questions. 
ONIF is in University Hall, Suite 1879. Once you enter UHall, head towards the Crimson Lion. Before you reach the restaurant, enter the elevator lobby on your right and walk through the metal door marked “1762-1859”. Walk towards and enter the LMU Extension office in UH 1863. Suite 1879 is tucked in the back of the Extension offices.

All or Most Disciplines 
Fund for Education Abroad Scholarships- DEADLINE EXTENDED: January 17 for Summer 2018, Fall 2018, or Spring 2019. FEA is committed to increasing the opportunities for dedicated American students to participate in high-quality, rigorous education abroad programs by reducing financial restrictions through the provision of grants and scholarships.
Udall Scholarship- Campus Deadline: Febraury 9. The Morris K. Udall Foundation awards up to fifty scholarships of $7,000 and fifty honorable mentions to sophomores and juniors committed to careers related to the environment, tribal public policy, or Native American health care. The Udall Foundation seeks future leaders across a wide spectrum of environmental fields, and future Native American and Alaska Native leaders in Native American health care and tribal public policy. Each scholarship covers expenses for tuition, fees, books, and room and board up to a maximum of $7,000. Scholarship recipients are eligible for one year of scholarship support. Scholars selected during their sophomore year may be re-nominated during their junior year. Contact ONIF to request access to the online application.
Capital Fellows Program- Deadline: February 12. Provides recipients a 9-10 month long opportunity to engage in public service and prepare for future careers, while actively contributing to the development and implementation of public policy in California. Capital Fellows are placed at some of the highest levels of California state government and assist state legislators, senior-level executive staff, and court administrators with a broad range of public policy issues and projects and are typically given assignments with a significant amount of responsibility and challenges. Eligible students may apply to one or more of the following sub-fellowships: Jesse M. Unruh Assembly Fellowship, Executive Fellowship, Judicial Fellowship Program, or California Senate Fellows.

College of Business Administration
The LAGRANT Foundation Undergraduate & Graduate Scholarships- Deadline: February 28. Students must be attending accredited institutions in the U.S. and majoring in the fields of advertising, marketing or public relations. Selected undergraduate students will receive scholarships of $2,000 each and graduate students will receive scholarships of $3,250 each. 

School of Education
TEFL Fellowships at the American University of Cairo- Deadline: Febraury 15. Fellowships in teaching English as a foreign language (TEFL) are offered annually to full-time students who wish to pursue a master's degree in TESOL and to acquire language teaching experience at The American University in Cairo.

Frank R. Seaver College of Science & Engineering
Amgen Scholars Program- Deadline: February 1. The Amgen Scholars Program provides hundreds of selected undergraduates with the opportunity to engage in a hands-on, paid summer research experience at many of the world's leading institutions. Amgen Scholars is hosted at 10 premier institutions within the United States. Each host institution has its own application process. U.S. citizenship or permanent residency in the United States is required, and you can apply to participate at as many host institutions as you are interested in. Rise Student Leadership Conference- Deadline: February 11. 
Are you a driven and energetic leader seeking to leave a mark on your campus? We invite you to apply to Rise, an all-expenses-paid student leadership conference where you’ll develop a deeper understanding of how to positively affect your campus and community. Eligibility: Current college sophomore or junior (graduating between fall 2018 and spring 2020), GPA 3.0 or above, Students from all undergraduate institutions and majors will be considered, Must hold a leadership position in a campus organization or aspire to hold future leadership roles in a current organization, and Must be available April 6-8, 2018.
