Hugo, Nebula, and World Fantasy-award winner Ken Liu was part of a hybrid panel celebrating the new issue of the School of Modern Languages' global science fiction publication, Hivemind magazine. The newly released issue, "Tolkien in Asia," explores how Tolkien featured the region in his work, as well as how his work has impacted fantasy writing in Asia and around the world.

Four undergraduate students in a course taught by Associate Professor Britta Kallin, who is also the associate chair of the School of Modern Languages, won first and third prizes in a German poetry competition organized by Kennesaw State University. Laila de Jong and Arianna Sakellaris won first place, and Eleanor Johnson and Oluwaferanmi Akande won third place.
