2:00 PM – Power and Sample 1: The Basics
This session introduces the concepts of power and sample size calculations such as alpha levels, power, and minimum detectable effect sizes through simple calculations, both manually and using Stata's -power- commands. This session concludes with a discussion of strategies to increase statistical power.
| |
3:30 PM – Power and Sample size 2 Simulations Methods
A continuation of Power and Sample Size 1, this session focuses on how to calculate power using simulation methods and how to create your own custom power calculation programs that leverage Stata's -power- command to create custom tables and graphs. We will work examples that simulate power for a t-test, the interaction term in a linear regression model, and the interaction term in a multilevel model.

Walk-In Hour for PhD Applications |
We invite students applying to doctoral programs this year to attend our Walk-in Hours for PhD Applications. This session offers an opportunity for students to receive individual feedback and guidance on their PhD application materials by Drs. Siyu Heng or Wen Zhou.
During walk-in hours, faculty will available to:
| |
-
Provide feedback on application materials, including statements of purpose, research proposals, and CVs
- Address questions regarding program requirements and the application process
- Offer recommendations for strengthening your overall application
To ensure a productive session, students are encouraged to submit application materials in advance via email to gph.bsadmin@nyu.edu
