IGNATIAN TEACH-IN FOR JUSTICE AND CROSSES ON BREBEUF'S FRONT LAWN TO THE Brebeuf Jesuit parent conversation series SCHEDULE

As families drive onto the Brebeuf Jesuit campus November 11-15, they will notice memorial crosses on the lawn representing the Jesuit martyrs who died fighting political oppression during the Salvadoran Civil War. These Jesuits were faculty members and administrators at the University of Central America when they were martyred on November 16, 1989.
Brebeuf Jesuit will also honor Ignatian values by sending one of the largest high school delegations – a group of more than 30 students and teachers — to the Ignatian Family Teach-In for Justice event in Washington, D.C., where Jesuit educators and students will gather to discuss important issues of social reform.
Brebeuf community members are invited to a special prayer service in the Brebeuf Jesuit Chapel with our student and faculty Ignatian Teach-In representatives at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, November 11, before our representatives depart at noon for Washington, D.C. Our representatives will return late Monday, November 14, after spending a day on Capitol Hill.

Student Spotlight

NAOMI GERMAN '17
Loves About Brebeuf
I love Brebeuf’s schedule. I cannot bear to sit in a class for too long learning about the same subject and the schedule definitely keeps me moving around and on my feet. I have found that the majority of teachers are quite personable. These teachers here at Brebeuf have something special about them and it’s always a delight when they impart some of their knowledge or share their experiences. I don’t frequent the offices, but I often stick around after class to finish a fascinating conversation or to ask questions.
Favorite Class
My favorite class that I’ve ever had at Brebeuf is Honors Anatomy and Physiology with Mrs. McCarter. She managed to tie in concepts from every other science that I’ve taken and relate it to how it affects the human body in an incredibly cohesive manner. The labs were simple and the dissections were so much fun! Mrs. McCarter is a fantastic teacher who is clear and concise in her teaching, and her zeal is reflected in her students’ intrigue with the subject matter. I left that class prepared for my future major in pre-med and more enthused about the subject than ever.
Future Plans
My college choice is a still up in the air, but I am deciding between Purdue, Oregon State, California Lutheran University, and the University of Washington in Seattle. I hope to become a doctor someday and utilize my skills to aid people in need of medical attention in third world countries. It’s a dream of mine to teach doctors in these countries how to perform certain procedures so that they know how to do them when I go back home.
Teams & Co-Curriculars
Currently:
Timmy Club
RAFA (Raising Awareness for Animals)
In the Past:
Volleyball team (Freshman year)
Tennis team (Freshman and Sophomore year)
Outdoor Club (Freshman year)
Random Fact
I really love zombies. I know, it may be weird, but if a zombie apocalypse were to happen, I’m totally prepared. And no, I’m not a fan of The Walking Dead, the zombie to living ratio is out of whack. It should be called The Walking Living because it’s more of a drama than anything else. I also do not recommend Zombeavers (2014).
Outside of Brebeuf’s rigorous academics, can you share with us an impactful Brebeuf experience you have had in athletics, serving others, retreats or through involvement in extracurriculars.
Brebeuf has helped me find myself through service work. It may be a requirement your junior year, but what it can reveal about yourself is something that cannot be taught in a classroom.  I went on a trip to the Dominican Republic through the Timmy Chapter at Brebeuf and even though it was a last minute decision, it one of the best I’ve ever made. I was able to help build a home, a community center, and an outdoor school cafeteria. I also picked up a little history about the Dominicans and their relationship to the Haitians. Not to mention that there were many leaders on the trip who were giving me advice about medical school and how to make the most of your passion.
What has been your favorite Brebeuf experience or most memorable moment so far?
I believe that some of my most memorable moments have been the Homecoming football games. I’ve been to every single one! I never actually watch the football game, but it sure looks like it might be entertaining to someone who cares for sports. I don’t go out often during the school year because of well...school, so normally I just hang out with my friends in the stands or sometimes we would leave early to go get milkshakes!

College Counseling News

Evening with Indiana Colleges
Monday, November 14
6:30-8:40 p.m.
Twenty-one Indiana colleges and universities will participate. The format will be the same as our earlier Evening with Colleges (out-of-state colleges) on September 28. Each school will be assigned a classroom and will offer three presentations across the evening. There will be breaks between presentation periods when families can visit with any of the colleges in their rooms. All grade levels are welcome!  This is a great opportunity to connect with the admission officer at each school who is assigned to Brebeuf Jesuit (first reader and first decision-maker for our applications).
Should you have any questions, please feel free to contact your college counselor.
Colleges attending Evening with Indiana Colleges include:
Ball State University, Butler University, DePauw University, Earlham College, Franklin College, Hanover College, Holy Cross College at Notre Dame, Indiana State University, Indiana University, Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis, Manchester University, Marian University, Purdue University, Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, Saint Mary’s College – Notre Dame, University of Evansville, University of Indianapolis, University of Notre Dame, University of Southern Indiana, Valparaiso University and Wabash College.
Mandatory PreACT for Sophomores
The PreACT will be administered to all sophomores on Friday, November 18. All sophomores should report to their testing location promptly at 8:10 a.m. The PreACT is a helpful tool for college counselors and is one of the students’ first indications of standard testing performance and preferences. For information on this assessment, please click here.
Please note – all students testing with extended time should bring their lunch on the day of the PreACT.

#BrebeufDrives

For our next #BrebeufDrive we will be coordinating our annual Help for the Holidays collection for the Catholic Charities Christmas Store. This is an opportunity for the Brebeuf community to actively be men and women for others. While unifying with the school through a collaborative effort, we are also strengthening a bond to a community in need of assistance.
Every year during the holiday season, Catholic Charities sponsors The Christmas Store. More than 700 needy families will shop for Christmas gifts and clothing for their children. Donations of time, gifts and money help bring a brighter Christmas season for these families in need. In many cases, the gifts provided by the Christmas Store will be the ONLY Christmas items these families will receive. The results of these drives will provide gifts to a vast number of individuals and families, bringing additional joy for the holiday season.
