Dear Tisch Community,

As we celebrate Women’s History Month, we honor the influence of women and gender-expansive people across artistic disciplines whose contributions continually shape culture, innovation, and intellectual thought. This March, we are highlighting women driving creative leadership in performance, film, and media.

On March 13th, in celebration of International Women’s Day, NYU Women Lead: A Global Leadership Accelerator will honor Shaina Taub '09 (BFA, Drama) with the 2025 NYU Global Trailblazer Award for Creative and Artistic Excellence. Taub’s groundbreaking musical Suffs exemplifies the power of art to illuminate social narratives and inspire change. This virtual event, hosted in partnership with the Office of Global Inclusion, will feature a conversation between Professors Mary Bitel and Kevin Kuhlke, discussing Taub’s creative journey and the intersection of storytelling and social impact.

Additionally, the annual Fusion Film Festival– a student-run celebration of women and non-binary creators in film, TV, and new media, will highlight Caryn Coleman, Shuchi Talati, and Cecelia Hall, whose work in advancing representation and equity has been instrumental to the industry.

Among these innovative creators, we celebrate Wyna Liu ’14 (MPS, ITP), a graduate of the Interactive Telecommunications Program, who now serves as puzzle editor for The New York Times. As the creative force behind Connections, Liu has crafted a word game that has become a daily ritual for many, challenging players to think critically while demonstrating how play inspires learning and discovery. Wyna: “You know what I would actually say to students at ITP and Tisch in general?

“Take what you love seriously. We all have interests and pursuits, and it can be easy to push something aside and tell yourself it’s not that important. But if it’s something you love, or even something that interests you, it’s worth pursuing. Take what you love seriously, and others will too.”

For those pursuing a career in the arts, there is no one “normal” path. Everyone takes a different route to build their career, taking a million different steps in different directions—but no way is wrong if you’re pointing yourself in the direction you want to go.

Wyna's journey illustrates the importance of connecting with one’s passions. By pursuing what she loves, she not only contributes to the vibrant world of word games but also inspires others to take their own interests seriously, reminding us all that every path—no matter how winding—can lead to unexpected and fulfilling connections.

Calling all Artists!: Flourish Festival Gallery Submissions

The Center for Global Spiritual Life, in collaboration with the Tisch School of the Arts, is excited to accept submissions for an art exhibition on "Resilience" as part of the 4th annual Flourish Festival taking place on Tuesday, April 29th!
