April 10, 2024
We need your help this Saturday. We are ministry partners with East Flora Elementary School, and this Saturday we are helping them with their school garden. Meet us in the PHUMC parking lot at 8:30 am Saturday to carpool. We hope you make plans to join us. This would be a great way for youth to get community service hours.
Sunday was a beautiful day for outside worship and Holy Communion, for praising God through song led by USM Wesley students Michael Christmas II and Rachael Smith, and for delicious burgers, cooked and served by our own PHUMC Youth. Thanks to Geoff, Youth, and parents who made this day a joy. Proceeds from this fundraiser meal go to support the Youth trip this summer to serve as volunteers in Waco.
The last two years, we offered space to watch the Sunday evening speaker at the Renew conference. We listened to Nadia Bolz-Weber and Kate Bowler and this year, I was pleasantly surprised to hear that the theme for Renew 2024 is renewing a love of scripture.  How did they know Parkway Hills would be walking through a year-long emphasis on the wisdom of scripture? You are invited to join us Sunday, April 21 at 6:45 pm in the worship center for a watch party for this year's conference. Sunday evening will offer a panel of a diverse collection of voices that will invite you to wrestle and reimagine your relationship with scripture.  The speakers the past two years have indeed been renewing, so I hope you will join us for this year's watch party. Bring a snack to share! Drinks will be provided. For more info on the Renew 2024 conference, click here.
General Conference will meet April 23-May 3, 2024, at the Charlotte Convention Center in North Carolina. The General Conference theme is “… and know that I am God” from Psalm 46:10. General Conference is the top policy-making body of The United Methodist Church, which meets once every four years. The conference can revise church law, as well as adopt resolutions on current moral, social, public policy and economic issues. It also approves plans and budgets for church-wide programs.
Although most of you won’t be attending in person, there are some ways you can help us as a conference prepare for this global gathering of holy conferencing. Watch this video to learn more about General Conference and where you can find trustworthy information through Mississippi Conference Communications.

Due to Covid, General Conference has not convened since 2016.  Pastor Dawn will be available after worship, Sunday, April 21 to answer questions you may have about General Conference and to be in conversation about what we might expect.

Baccalaureate Sunday--May 5th

Swing by the youth suite at 9:30 am May 5 to grab some food and wish our graduates well, then join us for worship at 10:45 as we recognize our seniors! Families of high school and college seniors, please reach out to Geoff by April 24 if somehow we missed contacting you so we can be sure to include your graduate.
Children 2nd-4th grade are invited to attend acolyte training on April 28. We will meet in the Garden at 9:30 a.m. and walk over to the worship center together for training. Serving as an acolyte is a great opportunity for our children to lead and assist in worship. If you're interested or have any questions contact Haven.
Children's Sunday School begins in the Garden at 9:30 am. Ages 3 years old - 4th grade welcome. We will focus on the importance of sharing in our Bible stories as we learn more about the Great Commission and stories from the Book of Acts. We will need PreK, Kindergarten, and 1st Grade teachers this Sunday. To *volunteer click this link.
*All volunteers must submit a background check before volunteering with children and youth.
