CHKD Spotlight: Neuromuscular Program |
|
|
CHKD's neuromuscular program provides comprehensive care using a multidisciplinary approach to children with conditions that affect both the nerves and muscles. Our team of dedicated and highly trained professionals care for around 200 patients with neuromuscular conditions.
The program is a Muscular Dystrophy Association Care Center. It is certified by the Parent Project Muscular Dystrophy, which recognizes the excellence in the care provided to patients with Duchenne muscular dystrophy.

|
To ensure they provide the most advanced treatment options, the neuromuscular team continuously monitors national clinical trials and new gene therapies as they become FDA-approved. CHKD has 15 operational clinical trials and has been approved for 10 additional trials. We are one of four sites that participated in the clinical trial for Elevidys, a gene therapy for Duchenne muscular dystrophy, and are among the first in the nation to administer this therapy.

CHKD Outpatient Pharmacy Opening November 13
To assist our family of physicians, employees, patients, and our local community, CHKD will open a new outpatient pharmacy on the first floor of the main hospital November 13 at 9:30 a.m. The pharmacy, which is owned and operated by CHKD Health System, will fill new and patient discharge prescriptions, and offer an online system for refills. Hours will be 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
The pharmacy will offer compounding and specialty pharmacy services, including kid-friendly flavorings, formulations free of allergens and dyes, diet-specific formulations, consultations with prescribers to adjust medications to address specific needs, and assistance with high-cost and difficult-to-obtain specialty medications. Providers can e-prescribe just like they do for all other pharmacies.
The pharmacy will also offer routine, seasonal, and travel vaccines as allowable by the Virginia Board of Pharmacy. Vaccine stock may be limited at times, so please call the pharmacy to confirm availability. In addition, to help prevent prescription drug abuse and environmental contamination, the CHKD Outpatient Pharmacy will also offer a free, year-round drug take-back program.
Pharmacy guests should use the main visitor parking garage across from the front entrance to the hospital. Quick pick-up spots with a 15-minute limit may be available in front of the hospital.
Contact the CHKD Outpatient Pharmacy at (757) 668-6337 on or after November 13 or visit CHKD.org/Pharmacy.

CHKD Tech Center Sleep Center Closure
In order to consolidate our services in the areas of greatest demand, CHKD has closed the sleep testing lab at Tech Center. The nationally accredited CHKD sleep centers located at Oakbrooke Health Center and CHKD Health Center South Campus will remain open. This change will allow the neuroscience division to increase the number of nights in which sleep studies are offered at the Oakbrooke Health Center and CHKD Health Center South Campus.
