ELEVATE Scholars
Curriculum and instruction doctoral scholars Carrie Chu, Lauren Melone, Stephanie Oyler, and Genevra Thomas recently attended the Council for Exceptional Children Division on Career Development and Transition (DCDT) international conference with Dr. Leena Landmark and Dr. Christina Gushanas.
The doctoral scholars are a part of ELEVATE Transition, a leadership training consortium grant that supports doctoral student learning from top faculty in the field of secondary special education and transition to adulthood across six universities in the United States.
ELEVATE stands for Equipping Learning, Empowering Vision, Achieving Transitions, and Engaging Families and is funded by the US Department of Education: Office of Special Education Programs (OSEP) through the Research to Practice 325H Competition.
The ELEVATE scholars began their studies this summer, and this conference was the first time they were able to meet in person. They networked, learned from research and practitioner-focused sessions, and attended committee meetings. Lauren Melone presented "Rethinking Speech-language Service Delivery in Transition and Transition Planning for Pregnant and Parenting Students,” and Stephanie Oyler presented "Keeping it Short: Courses Supporting Evidence-Based Practices.”
