The Memorial Difference: Watch Two Powerful Videos

The positive impact that Memorial Medical Center makes on the lives of our community members truly warms my heart. That couldn't be any truer than with the stories of Will Jacobs and Dolores Williams, the latest patients highlighted in our Memorial Difference campaign. Please view the videos below.

Will prided himself on a healthy and active lifestyle, but the one thing he couldn’t control was his genetics. Not realizing something was wrong until he became weak very playing golf, tests showed he was in urgent need of open heart surgery due to severe blockages. From the 8-hour surgery through cardiac rehabilitation, Will credits our entire team for him being alive and enjoying life today.

“They treated me as a dad, a husband and as a man who needed help. There’s not enough words to describe my gratitude,” Will said. “They cared for me from start to finish, and I wouldn’t be here today if it weren’t for them.”
Will's experience is a testament to the incredibly talented providers and team members that comprise Memorial's Cardiovascular Services team. I encourage you to visit our website to learn more about how we are elevating heart care in Southern New Mexico.

A stage 4 breast cancer diagnosis made it hard for Dolores Williams to focus on anything else. A loving mother, Dolores now needed the strength she has long provided to her family.

With General Surgeon Dr. Carrie Dieker and the entire MMC team behind her, Dolores didn’t have to leave Las Cruces to find the strength, hope and care that she needed.
“Now I understand the word ‘fight,’” Dolores said. “With the help of Memorial Medical Center, cancer does not sum up your life. There is hope.”
From diagnostics to chemotherapy to surgery, Dolores experienced the high-quality care that our Breast Health program is known for throughout the region.

MMC Begins Cardiac Electrophysiology Program

I am very proud to announce the opening of our first cardiac electrophysiology (EP) lab. EP is a specialty that studies the heart’s electrical system and helps clinicians determine the best treatment plan for patients – whether that is medication, a pacemaker, a defibrillator, cardiac ablation, or procedure.

The lab addition comes in conjunction with the recruitment of highly talented Cardiac Electrophysiologist, Dr. Steven Hamilton, to the medical team. Dr. Hamilton is pictured above (photo at left), with MMC's Medical Director of Cardiology, Dr. M. Rizwan Sardar, and (photo at right) with Cardiologist Dr. Luis R. Colato.

This is truly an exciting time for Memorial, Las Cruces, and Southern New Mexico. The expansion of our heart and vascular service line to include cardiac electrophysiology is part of our commitment to invest in our community and provide high-end cardiovascular services that one only sees in large metropolitan areas.

I am very proud to announce that Memorial Medical Cancer Center has begun treating cancer patients using the VitalBeam™ radiotherapy system, bringing even more advanced image-guided tumor targeting capabilities close to home.
This impressive technology delivers powerful cancer treatments with pinpoint accuracy and precision, opening the door to new possibilities for the treatment of lung, breast, prostate, head and neck, as well as other cancers that are treatable with radiotherapy. With this system, our Radiation Oncology specialists can select the optimal treatment for every type of cancer.
As the only nationally accredited cancer program in the region, we are proud to access the latest research and offer the most current treatments for our patients.

I was privileged to welcome New Mexico Secretary of Public Health Patrick Allen (photo at left) to our facility on April 4th. State Rep. Doreen Gallegos also attended our meeting. Being new to his cabinet role and to our state, this was a great opportunity to discuss our facility and our region's healthcare ecosystem with Mr. Allen.

On a separate recent occasion, I had the opportunity to meet U.S. Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy (photo at right) at the New Mexico Farm & Ranch Heritage Museum.

These outreach events reflect my continued dedication to improving healthcare policies and resources for Southern New Mexicans. The entire leadership team here at Memorial takes great pride in advocating for our region and in keeping New Mexicans in New Mexico for healthcare.
