Rocky Mountain Fur Trade Presentation April 6 at Ranch House

We have all heard about the Gold Rush that brought tens of thousands of people into Colorado, but did you know that decades before the Rush, fur trappers and traders traveled up the Front Range creeks in search of beaver, perhaps even across Ken-Caryl and up Deer Creek? On Thursday, April 6 at 7 p.m. at the Ranch House, the Ken-Caryl Ranch Historical Society will host Michael Schaubs, living historian and authority, who will present “The 1837 Fort Jackson Trading Camp Inventory: A Typical Outfit for the Plains Indian Trade.” The program, which is free and open to the public, is based on the actual inventory of a trading party along the Arkansas River. Typical trading protocols will be discussed and reproductions of typical trade goods will be displayed.

Bradford Ballfields Update

At its March 28 Board meeting, the Metropolitan District Board discussed the proposed ballfields at Bradford K-8 North. No decisions were made regarding the ballfields at this time. If you have any questions, contact Melissa Daruna at melissad@kcranch.org or 303-979-1876, ext. 136.

Fire Ban Lifted; Fire Restrictions in Place

Effective March 30, Jefferson County Sheriff Jeff Shrader lifted the Stage 2 Fire Ban and reinstated Stage 1 Fire Restrictions for all of Jefferson County. While recent and forecasted weather helps reduce the risk of wildland fires, conditions still dictate the need for continued fire restrictions and caution, particularly with any outdoor cooking and campfires as permissible under Stage 1. See the Jeffco Sheriff's Fire Restrictions page for details.
