Dear Friend,
Our theme for February is Invest, or giving your time and talent whenever and wherever you can. As military spouses who move on average once every two years, it can sometimes feel like we never have long enough to connect personally and professionally in one location. Throughout the month, we’ll bring you strategies and tips to help you make the most of where you are at this moment.
This month’s featured spouse, Natalie Stamey, speaks profoundly about investing in yourself, your community and the greater world around you, wherever that may be. Specifically, she discusses her career and how she transitioned from broadcast journalism to a role in public affairs. Whether she’s discussing moving, networking or transitioning between jobs, Natalie believes devoting time to relationships and volunteering in the community has led to both professional growth and fulfillment.
I love the idea of blooming where you are planted. With PCS season just around the corner, we know we may only be planted in one location for several months or a year or two at most. Natalie suggests we should not live as if we are waiting to turn the next page. Instead, we should Invest. “At each new place, I want to have fully filled out those pages with memories, friendships and lessons learned,” she says.
So the question for each of us is: what do you want to walk away with at this duty station? As military spouse professionals, I hope you can build relationships, accept new challenges, and live in the moment as Natalie has done in this duty station and the next.
This is a BIG month for the Other Side of Service. We are launching our crowd funding campaign that will take our organization to the next level. See below for more information on how to get involved. With this campaign, we’ll be able to share the stories of military spouse professionals and connect with you in meaningful ways. Stay tuned and check your inbox for more information.
Sincerely,
Lynn Waidelich
