Artificial Intelligence Used to Discover Novel Superconductor
A multidisciplinary team at APL has discovered a novel superconductor using artificial intelligence (AI). The key to this breakthrough came through combining materials science expertise and real data into a predictive AI model, which vastly accelerates the timeline of targeted materials discovery.
First SURPASS Teams Set to Tackle Tough Societal Challenges
The SURPASS program forged between APL and the Johns Hopkins Whiting School of Engineering seeks cutting-edge ideas that “go beyond the possible” — across domains from brain activity monitoring to synthetic biological AI to near-space flight.
Fast Company Names Two APL Innovations as ‘World Changing Ideas’
Two technology breakthroughs developed by APL were honored with Fast Company magazine’s 2023 World Changing Idea awards. The Double Asteroid Redirection Test (DART), which was designed for NASA by APL, was named the winner in the experimental category, while the Lab’s PFAS filtration and destruction methodology was recognized as one of nine finalists in the water category.
Research Frontiers Forum
June 8, 2023 • Johns Hopkins APL
The Research Frontiers Forum will be held at APL on June 8, with a goal of aligning on national security priorities, identifying the major gaps threatening progress and exploring the frontiers of potentially game-changing research. Attendees will join a conversation featuring a range of perspectives on climate science, technology application and policy, followed by an exploration of a brighter, climate-secure future through cutting-edge research demonstrations.
