Montiel leads top-ranked Brentwood Academy past MBA to improve to 8-0
By David Dawson • Sports Writer

BRENTWOOD – Two months into the season, the Brentwood Academy football team owns a perfect record and a No. 1 state ranking.

And yet, as impressive as that might sound, BA senior quarterback Tayler Montiel said he believes his team’s best days, and best football, are still ahead of them.

Montiel completed 18-of-23 passes for 241 yards and two touchdowns on Friday night as the top-ranked Eagles improved to 8-0 by posting a 24-14 victory over rival Montgomery Bell Academy in a nonregion game at BA.

NASHVILLE – The Battle Ground Academy football team produced three touchdowns in the first 12 minutes Friday and it was enough to hold on for a Division II-AA Middle Region at Franklin Road Academy.

The Wildcats secured a 21-14 victory and forced four FRA turnovers in their first game since Sept. 18 after enduring COVID-19 safety protocols.

FRANKLIN – A dry erase board in the Cherry Sports Complex displayed the Battle Ground Academy volleyball team goal Thursday: Become regional champs.

The “Regional” was crossed off and replaced with “State” after the Lady Wildcats rallied to stay unbeaten to clinch the Division II-A Middle Region crown after a 27-25, 20-25, 22-25, 25-19, 15-11 marathon victory over Franklin Road Academy.
“We are not done,” echoed BGA seniors Kearstyn Seay, Ally Newkirk and Christine Jewell.
“Next up is state and we want to take it all,” Seay added.

Peytonsville residents gather to oppose 128-lot Gosey Hill development
Planning commission passes site plan with amendments

By Tori Keafer Staff Writer

Not much can draw a crowd these days, but dozens of county residents gathered outside the Williamson County Administrative Complex Thursday evening before a planning commission meeting to share their opinions on zoning and development.

Many in the crowd held signs that read, “Keep Peytonsville Rural,” in protest of a development plan for the Duquette property on Long Lane and Gosey Hill Road in Peytonsville. The development would bring 128 lots to the roughly 143-acre property — a density of about 0.9 units per acre — around Toon Creek with about 51% of the site preserved as open space and about 70% of the existing tree canopy retained.

Many residents expressed safety as well as aesthetic concerns with the development.

Muralist hopes first large-scale Franklin portrait spreads positivity

Jazz music drifted through the air as Michael Cooper checked the weather radar on his phone late Friday morning.

“Trust me, I keep an eye on the weather,” he said.

A beat later, “Oh crap!” Cooper exclaimed, noting the 50% chance of rain set to arrive in a few minutes.

Rain isn’t ideal painting weather for Cooper, a muralist of 30 years who has been commissioned to create the “Welcome to Franklin” mural outside the Urgent Team clinic on Hillsboro Road.
