  • Signing Day for students graduating from OHS and are entering the workforce or technical training will be on May 1st as part of the SteeleCoWorks program! (Pictured)
  • Today we are at the capitol with other Owatonna business leaders testifying for funding to re-open the Workforce Center here.  The $'s will come from an existing fund paid into by business.
  • Tomorrow we will be at the capitol testifying about the $2B in taxes being proposed on business will hurt business.
  • Made in Owatonna Day will bring students out of the high school to see what careers in law, law enforcement, courts and teaching look like!  Thanks to the Bosch Community Fund for the partnership.
  • At our members request, the Chamber has asked MNDOT to put lights in at the exit at Clinton Falls.  Customers routinely complain about how dark it is there at night.

Why are downtowns important in hiring?

Downtowns are a key element in recruitment and retaining of workers for industry, commercial and professional businesses.  Do our millennials want to stay or come back to live, work and play here? Would their future hires and spouse want to live or move here?  Do your new trainees stay?

Companies looking to relocate look at the downtowns when deciding to where to locate a plant or business and expand.  They look to see their workers could see themselves in our community.  The downtown reflects and affects all employers and employees.    It reflects the:
  • economic health
  • quality of life
  • local history
  • local pride
  • and a sense of place in Owatonna

A beautiful and welcoming downtown Owatonna is for everyone and transfers to the entire community.

Do you want to help keep and grow our workforce in Owatonna?  Sponsor a flower basket or three to help beautify Downtown Owatonna today.  Has your business sponsored baskets yet?

Looking To Be A Foster Home?

Steele County Humane Society is currently in the process of updating all of our policies and procedures, which we expect will create positive changes within our organization moving forward. Our main focus is caring for stray cats and dogs in the area, as well as finding them loving temporary and permanent homes.

We are currently in need of foster homes for dogs and cats of all ages, breeds, and types. We are also always looking for volunteers and board members throughout the year. The SCHS is always accepting monetary and supply donations as well if volunteering or fostering don't interest you  If you are interested in fostering or volunteering or just want to receive more information on the process, please call our office at 507-451-4512 or email us at steelecountyhumanesociety@gmail.com.
