Dear friends,
We are excited to share the fourth installment of our new quarterly newsletter, From the Archives, featuring updates, activities and acquisitions at the UC Santa Barbara Library’s Special Research Collections (SRC).
In our June 2021 issue, we discuss the unique influence and lives of several local donors whose impact extends beyond Santa Barbara’s city limits. Join us for the colorful journey of Leslie Leaney, co-founder of the Leaney-Brooks Diving History Archive, which weaves his childhood, global travels, and a few lucky book store finds into a lifelong passion for underwater exploration. Discover the stunning photography of alumnus Roger O. Camp, who began his photographic journey as a student at UCSB and went on to capture images of beaches, butterflies, and botanicals around the world. Dive into local history through The Santa Barbara Gazette, the only newspaper in Santa Barbara County until 1868 which covered news from the San Luis Obispo county line south toward the San Fernando Valley.
At the Library, our mission is to preserve and protect our collective history so that we may gain insight into our past, present and future. We hope that you enjoy learning more about the UCSB Library’s Special Research Collections and its role in providing access to primary source materials that support excellent scholarship and research.
Many thanks for your continued interest in and support of the Library,
