Dear Student Affairs team members,
As the semester comes to a close, I want to personally thank you for the support and care you and your departments have provided to our students this semester. It has been a semester of great highs and also some lows, which are never the easiest times to navigate; however, it is our call in Student Affairs to support our students - and one another - through all the seasons we face. I am grateful to be in this hope-filled work with you.
Today is the last Dr. G’s Fun House event of the semester — Recess at the Rec — from 2-6 p.m. at the Sumers Rec Center. The event features food trucks, games and more. While the Fun House events were designed as low-time commitment, high fun engagements for students, I would love to see our staff attend. Be sure to sign Yoshi’s birthday card while you're there!
Students who wish to stay in the residence halls during the winter break period (December 21 to January 11) are required to register. There are no additional fees, but students who do not register will have their cards turned off. Please share this form with students and encourage them to register by December 21 if they are planning to stay on campus.
Our last time together as a Division in 2023 is Monday, December 18, from 3-5 p.m. in Holmes Lounge. This Winter Warm Up message was distributed last week. Please make every effort to attend and RSVP by this Friday, December 8, if you have not RSVP’d.
I hope you all have the opportunity to take a few days to rest and restore over our upcoming break. Whether you enjoy time with family, activities outdoors, hitting the local cinema for the latest show, or another hobby altogether, I’m wishing you and your loved ones a season of joy.
Warmly,
|

Anna “Dr. G” Gonzalez

STUDENT AFFAIRS SPOTLIGHT |
|

|
Yael Rojo didn’t come to WashU to earn a degree. Really, the degree in economics he will complete this spring is just a means to an end. For him, the goal is to send his parents home to Mexico, a place they left as young people in pursuit of a more economically fruitful future.
“The challenges my parents faced were more than anything I’ve experienced,” explained Rojo. “They came over when they were teenagers to work to send money back to Mexico to support their families. Ever since I was little, that was the most important thing drilled into my head – that I don’t have to go through what they went through; they already made that sacrifice for me so that I can go to school and get a college education.”
