Road Resurfacing in District 4
The City Council recently approved funding for Phase 1 of the City’s road improvement plan for the 2026 fiscal year. The improvements include resurfacing and concrete work for neighborhood roads. Several streets in D4 are part of the projects. Some of those include:
  • Vermont Street from Memorial Parkway to end of street
  • Seminole Drive from Governors Drive to 9th Avenue
  • Ventura Road from Fairacres Road to Holiday Drive

Welcoming Eli Lilly to Huntsville
At a Mars Music Hall program that included Gov. Kay Ivey and Mayor Tommy Battle, pharmaceutical giant Eli Lilly and Company announced plans to invest $6 billion to build a next-generation manufacturing facility in Huntsville – the largest industrial private investment ever made in the State of Alabama. Lilly’s campus will focus on domestic production of small molecule synthetic and peptide medicines, including oral GLP-1 products. The project will create 450 high-value jobs, among them will be engineers, scientists, operations personnel and lab technicians.

Big Year for Green Team in 2025  
The City’s Green Team, within the Department of Landscape Management, had a big year in 2025. Among other initiatives, Green Team hosted 303 cleanup events across the city. Council Member Bill Kling was a frequent volunteer at cleanups around District 4. Green Team also connected with almost 8,000 students through its Green Ambassadors program, teaching young people good sustainability practices.

District 4 Deck the Districts Winner
A big round of applause for Woolsey Finnell, the District 4 winner of this year’s Deck the Districts Holiday Light Contest. Mr. Finnell was recognized by Council Member Kling at the Dec. 18 Council meeting and presented with his prize package. Thank you to everyone who entered and lit up the community with their festive displays.

Behind the Cross-Country Scenes at John Hunt Park
You may have noticed the swarm of runners at John Hunt Park at weekend events throughout the fall. Cross-country runners from across the nation come to Huntsville for major competitions. Behind the scenes, though, get a peek at how those races are put together and held and why cross-country races in Huntsville are becoming destination events.

BLASTing North Alabama Music
The Huntsville-Madison County Public Library recently added 50 new albums from north Alabama artists to its free BLAST music streaming platform as the city’s music ecosystem continues to grow. The platform now features music from 245 artists and 279 albums, representing a wide range of genres including metal, Afrobeats, punk, spiritual, hip-hop, R&B, blues, folk and more.

Register for Girls on the Run
Registration is open for the Girls on the Run 2026 season. Open to girls in grades 3-5, the program is designed to inspire participants to recognize their inner strength, increase their level of physical activity, imagine their possibilities and confidently stand up for themselves and others. Teams will be offered at the Dr. Richard Showers, Sr. Recreation Center and Fern Bell Recreation Center. Each site is limited to 15 participants.

How Huntsville Transit Supports Mental Health
Huntsville is blessed to have a premier behavioral healthcare provider in WellStone. And Huntsville Transit is going the extra mile to improve access. Transit provides free transportation to WellStone for those who need it, removing an obstacle to mental health. Transit provides up to 10,000 rides each year to and from WellStone.

No D4 Office Hours in January
Due to the Huntsville-Madison County Public Library being closed on Jan. 19 for Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, Council Member Kling will not hold his monthly drop-in office hours. Council Member Kling will next hold office hours on Monday, Feb. 16, from 6-7 p.m.
