Q: On your website, there is a lovely, illustrated story about the history of Learning Roots. What was it like creating the first books for Learning Roots?
A: It was a lot of fun! We created our first books with no limits on paper size, colours or design, just like painting on a blank canvas. But later as we became experienced in publishing, we put protocols, procedures and standards in place to ensure quality output each time.
Q: As the inspiration behind Learning Roots, did your daughter give you ideas about new books and products as she grew up?
A: Not directly, but our parenting journey with her certainly did. We were exposed to the world of children with a different lens on trips to book fairs, museums, libraries and other interesting places.
Q: You currently have a great selection of Muslim children’s titles. Do you have any plans to launch middle grade or young adult titles with the same values as your children’s list?
A: Absolutely! We are developing our portfolio to deliver content for children at each stage of their development, and so we're currently expanding our titles range to cover middle grade and young adults too.
Q: Can you share a forthcoming Learning Roots title that you are excited about and why?
A: Sure! The Amazing Muslim Worlds is a journey through 1400 years of epic Muslim history for children, exploring everything from inventions, empires and inspiring leaders spanning Spain all the way to China. This middle grade non-fiction book is due for release in Q4 this year.
