Wonders & Worries Newsletter - January 2016
The Howard Family Story
“Just like with Dr. Chadha and Texas Oncology for Stephanie’s treatment, we have a team that is built around helping our kids through this whole process. That’s one of the reasons Wonders & Worries is so amazing – it’s so specialized.”
-Christian Howard
Stephanie Howard never expected that a persistent cough on a family vacation in the summer of 2015 was actually something much more. After visiting with her family doctor and running tests, she was diagnosed with B-cell lymphoma.
Donor Highlight:
Texas Oncology
“Texas Oncology’s support of Wonders & Worries benefits patients right here in our community.”
-Dr. Larry Tokaz

For over 10 years, Texas Oncology has been a strong supporter of Wonders & Worries, including our Presenting Sponsor for this year’s Unmasked Gala. Please take two minutes to hear from Dr. Larry Tokaz, a Medical Oncologist with Texas Oncology, as he explains why the partnership between our two organizations is so important for healing the whole family.

Memory and Celebration Lanterns
Kids at our December check-in groups worked on memory and celebration lanterns using mason jars, tissue paper, Modge Podge, and flame-less tea lights. For our bereavement check-in group, the kids were encouraged to draw a favorite memory of the person in their family who passed away on the tissue paper. For the illness check-in group, the kids could draw a picture of a favorite memory this year or a family holiday tradition
Monthly Therapeutic Tip
Granting Wishes in Fantasy
At this time of year many people are setting goals and thinking about hopes and wishes for the year. That may be very difficult for families who are grieving and may cause an added sense of loss when children are wishing for things that a parent can't provide.

Kids Giving Back!
Wonders & Worries means a lot to Henrik and Annika Dawson. They started coming to Wonders & Worries when their dad was diagnosed with multiple myeloma. After seeing how much their sessions helped them talk about their dad’s illness, they decided they wanted to give back so more kids could benefit from our support. During their birthday this winter, they asked all of their party guests to make a donation to Wonders & Worries instead of giving them presents. They sent over 150 invitations to friends and family around the world and Henrik and Annika raised $4,475!
Community Partnerships
A big thank you to Dell and the Round Rock Express for their year-end grant to Wonders & Worries! Partnerships with organizations like Dell and the Express help us increase the awareness in the community about the services we provide. Thank you for being such wonderful ambassadors for Wonders & Worries! #teamjana
