Hello Colleague,
Here at the office of NYU Marketing Communications, we have been thinking a lot about the potential benefits and serious complications of using AI in our work. As a result of these considerations, we have created a set of
generative AI guidelines for NYU communicators.
This resource contains guiding principles as well as specific examples of when to use or avoid generative AI tools while creating communications. The most important thing to remember is that generative AI cannot make anything that outstrips the expertise, critical thinking, and empathy practiced by the community of NYU communications professionals. These tools should enhance, rather than replace, the work we create.
Please note that these guidelines do not apply to educational and classroom settings and should not be construed as official NYU policy. Additionally, since AI technology is advancing quickly, consider this as a living document that will be updated as best practices evolve.
We want to thank everyone who has contacted us with questions about using generative AI in their work. If you have any other questions or would like to submit a request for content you would like us to cover in the future, please reach out to
