Dear Student,
We hope your summer has been amazing and that you are as excited as we are to begin the fall semester here at Tufts.
If you live beyond the Boston area, you may not know that the MBTA Orange Line is closing for 30 days, beginning at 9 p.m. on Friday, August 19. The Green Line between Union Square and Government Center will also be replaced by MBTA shuttle buses from August 22 to September 18.
Getting around greater Boston, Somerville, and Medford is likely to take longer during this time. The MBTA is replacing the train service with shuttle buses, but traffic congestion is expected to significantly increase as some commuters opt to drive instead of taking the T.
Please anticipate that your journey to Tufts may take a little longer, including coming to campus from Logan.
Once you are here, the local authorities are discouraging driving as much as possible. They are hoping commuters take advantage of the increased bus and commuter rail services. If you have an MBTA Charlie Card, those services will be free. Also, Bluebikes memberships will be free during the 30 day period for everyone.
Wishing you safe travels,
Rich
