Welcome to Tufts! | Summer 2025 |
|
|
Hello REAL Students,
Welcome to Tufts! We're excited to have you as a member of the University community! You'll be making your way to campus before you know it. Ahead of the start of the semester, each week, you will be receiving important reminders, key updates, and introductions to staff and resources. Be sure to check your email each Tuesday afternoon. If you miss one of our messages, we keep an online archive of everything we send to incoming students over the summer.

New Student Checklist 2025 |
|
|
You have a few responsibilities over the summer, and many of them can be completed online. Your customized New Student Checklist 2025 will help you stay on track. The checklist will open June 2 on your Application Status page. Your very first step is to secure your Tufts student ID number, username, and email address, if you haven't done so already. You'll use these for many important tasks over the summer and while you're enrolled at Tufts. We will also send all official University communications exclusively to your @tufts.edu address starting June 10, so it's important to get your email set up and check it on a regular basis. Also, do not forward your Tufts email to any other account (Gmail, etc.) because forwarding can prevent your emails from being delivered.

New Student Checklist 101 Webinar |
On Tuesday, June 3, you will receive an email informing you that the New Student Checklist is open. We hope you will join us on Tuesday, June 3, at 7 p.m. ET for our New Student Checklist 101 webinar. During this meeting, we will introduce the Orientation team and review the New Student Checklist with you. The checklist will guide you through a variety of required or suggested steps to complete over the summer.
Registration for the webinar is required. Please submit any questions you want us to answer during the meeting in advance. Don't worry if you can't make this time work. We will post a video recording of this session to our website within a few days of the event. Please note that this meeting is intended only for students. On Wednesday, June 4, we are holding a webinar intended for parents and families that has a different registration link. They will learn about this in a separate message to them.

You will next receive an email titled "Your Academic Transition to Tufts," which will include the necessary steps you must complete in preparation for your fall course registration. You will be required to meet with your Advising Dean to discuss your fall registration plans, and advising meetings will begin in mid-July. In advance of your advising meeting, you must apply for official approval of your transfer credits in the Student Information System (SIS) and complete Academic Essentials on Canvas. Details on both will be included in the "Academic Transition to Tufts" email. Begin submitting your transfer courses into SIS for evaluation ASAP; this evaluation process takes substantial time to complete, and any delays will adversely impact your fall course registration.

What Happens During Orientation? |
Our Orientation program is designed to familiarize you with campus resources, build community and connection, and establish skills for your independence and responsibility. We divide our goals for Orientation into four broad categories:
|
-
Intellectual Engagement and Inquiry
- Meaningful Inclusion
- Community and Belonging
- Health and Wellness
|
Our Orientation Team will get you started when you first arrive, but there are lots of other faculty and staff at Tufts who are looking forward to meeting you! Jumbos, meet your Student Life Team:
|
-
Dean of Students Office: We are your central hub for co-curricular resources at Tufts. The Orientation, Residential Life and Learning, Office of Campus Life, Health and Wellness, Career Center, and Family Engagement teams report to the Dean of Students. We are all available to assist your transition to Tufts!
-
Student Services: Within the Registrar's office, Student Services is a great place to start if you're unsure who to contact with a question or concern.
-
Academic Advising: We are a primary resource for academic matters at Tufts. We're here to help you register for courses, identify your academic interests, and answer questions about academic policies.
-
Residential Life and Learning: We're so much more than where you live. We offer residentially based programs throughout the year and are one of the largest student employers on campus.
-
Office for Campus Life: We support more than 330 student organizations at Tufts, and we work with student government and the Tufts University Social Collective on initiatives and programming.
- Student Support: We're a team of people who care about students and know about the many different options for support at Tufts. We're here to listen, brainstorm, educate, encourage, and help you get the right support for your unique circumstances.
-
Community Standards: We help maintain a campus environment of mutual care and respect by offering formal and informal methods for conflict resolution and by promoting the University's Community Standards. We also provide trainings, consultation, and resources for individuals, student organizations, and colleagues.
- Restorative Practices: Tufts Student Life is committed to creating a culture of well-being and belonging through the integration of Restorative Practices (RP) into our campus culture and communities.
