Probation/Continued Probation

Dear Student,
We are writing to inform you of a change in your academic status here at California State University, Sacramento.  As a result of your Summer 2019 grades, you have been placed on Academic Probation or Continued Probation.
As a doctoral, master level, credential, certificate, or unclassified student, the minimum California State University, Sacramento cumulative grade point average that you must maintain is a 3.0.
  1. At the Doctoral level, no courses with a grade lower then a “B” (3.0 grade points per unit) may be credited toward fulfillment of the requirements for a doctorate degree;
  2. At the Master’s level, no courses with a grade lower then a “B” (3.0 grade points per unit) may be credited toward fulfillment of the requirements for a master’s degree, unless expressly permitted by a campus-approved graduate programs’ written policies; and
  3. “CR” grades are excluded in calculating grade point average.
If you are placed on Academic Probation, this means that in the previous semester, you were in Good Standing, and for the current semester (Summer 2019) your Sacramento State grade point average or cumulative grade point average fell below 3.0.  Students on probation are eligible to enroll in the subsequent semester.
If you are placed on Continued Probation, this means that the previous semester you were on Academic Probation and for the current semester (Summer 2019) you earned a 3.0 or higher semester GPA, but have a cumulative GPA below 3.0.  If you are placed on Continued Probation, you are limited to a maximum course load of 9 units per semester until you return to good academic standing.  You must adjust your schedule no later than September 6, 2019.  If you have not lowered your enrollment to this level, the University will drop courses beginning with the last course enrolled until the 9 unit limit is reached.
If you need further clarification or if you believe your status is incorrect, contact the Office of Graduate Studies at (916) 278-6470.  Check your My Sac State (http://my.csus.edu) account for any updates to your academic record through Summer 2019.

Sincerely,
Danielle Ambrose
