| Helping Your Student Thrive During the College Transition |
Starting college is a major step for both students and parents. In her article, Top Tips for a Smooth Transition to College, Priscilla Childress shares practical advice to help families through this time of growth and change.
She emphasizes the importance of encouraging your student to take responsibility for managing their schedule, making appointments, and handling money, noting that “now’s the time to let your student take the lead… It’s how they learn independence.” At the same time, Childress reminds parents to be a supportive listener and avoid putting pressure on their student by saying things like, “These are the best years of your life.” Instead, she suggests letting them vent and offering encouragement, because “knowing you’re on their side makes a world of difference.”
Childress also recommends preparing a simple “get well” kit, planning visits ahead, and using campus family resources to stay connected. With this guidance, your student can confidently navigate their exciting new chapter.

Is Your Student Set Up to Receive Their Refunds?
|
We’re excited to share some helpful updates to the TigerXpress portal—where students manage their university payments. Recent improvements now make it easier to:
- Pay online using a 529 plan or TigerFunds
- Add money directly to a TigerFunds account
- Use an additional option for international payments
If your student previously used TigerXpress, they’ll still need to create a new eRefund Direct Deposit account to receive any future refunds. They can also give you access to their account by designating you as an Authorized User(s) through the Tiger Portal. Need help? Links to easy tutorials are included to walk through each step.
Important: Payment deadlines are strictly enforced.
Late payments can result in fees or even class cancellations, so it’s critical that students review their balance and make arrangements early. For added flexibility, the Installment Payment Plan is available—but it must be set up before the deadline.
Setting up a refund account is also key—direct deposit is still the quickest and most secure way to get funds back.
Have questions? We’re here to support you and your student.

Introducing the Mobile ID! |
Students can now use a digital version of their Campus ID on their smartphone or wearable device to pay for meals, check out library books, access buildings, and more.
How to Set Up: Download the Transact eAccounts app or click here: Apple | Google Play > Select University of Memphis > Sign in with UUID and password > Tap “Add to Wallet”
Where It Works: Use the Mobile ID at dining halls, libraries, vending machines, bookstores, and for building access. (More buildings will be added soon—check the website for updates.)
Important: Once new door readers are installed, the physical ID card won’t work for access. Students must activate their mobile ID. Fobs will still work during the transition.
Device Requirements: Compatible with Apple Wallet, Google Wallet, and Samsung Wallet.
