| Spotlight on ... Best Practices for Working Remotely
New to working from home? Needless to say, employers provide guidance specific to their organizations, from tech set-up to expectations for progress. Here are few additional tips to keep in mind if you're faced with a different arrangement:
- Stick to a schedule. As much as possible, follow a similar schedule when you're working from home. Tackle the toughest tasks when you have the most energy, often first thing in the morning.
- Minimize distractions. One of the toughest parts of working from home is the potential for distraction. Do what you can to reduce any temptation by choosing an environment that will allow you to focus.
- Be proactive about checking in. If you won't be meeting with your supervisor in person, make it a point to do an email check-in with ongoing tasks and accomplishments -- perhaps on a weekly basis (or whatever frequency makes sense).

| Resource of the Month: Resiliency Training
There's no time like the present to build your resiliency, that ability to bounce back and find ways to keep going amid the stresses and struggles of life.
Here are a few strategies from the American Psychological Association (APA), with more linked below.
- Prioritize relationships. Connecting with empathetic and understanding people can remind you that you’re not alone in the midst of difficulties.
- Take care of your body. Stress is just as much physical as it is emotional. Proper nutrition, ample sleep, hydration and regular exercise can strengthen your body to adapt to stress and reduce the toll of emotions like anxiety or depression.
- Keep things in perspective. Try to identify areas of irrational thinking, such as a tendency to catastrophize difficulties, and adopt a more balanced and realistic thinking pattern. You may not be able to change a highly stressful event, but you can change how you interpret and respond to it.
