MEET THE UNIVERSITY CHAPLAINCY
JULY 9, 2019
ncoming students from the Class of 2020 participating in the Illumination Ceremony
Hello Jumbos,
This week, we’re introducing the University Chaplaincy and philosophical life at Tufts. Not what you might expect, the University Chaplaincy is a radically inclusive and justice-centered resource that supports everyone at Tufts, whether religious or nonreligious, through meditation, prayer, retreats, music, educational programs, and service and social justice opportunities.
Come meet us on Matriculation Day at the Spiritual Life Resource Fair from 3 - 5 p.m. in Goddard, and check out our many communities and Orientation programs. You are welcome at them all, whether to practice your spirituality or just to learn.
As a reminder, discounted Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) passes are now available for Fall 2019! If you plan to ride the "T" or the bus in the fall, order your discounted pass by August 8 to get an 11% discount!

What is the University Chaplaincy?

The Tufts University Chaplaincy is a dynamic hub supporting religious, spiritual, ethical, and cultural life for all members of the Tufts community. We:
Reporting to the University President, the University Chaplain leads the spiritual life team, which currently includes chaplains serving the following communities:
  • Africana
  • Buddhist
  • Catholic
  • Hindu
  • Humanist
  • Jewish
  • Muslim
  • Protestant
Together, they serve the whole Tufts campus as well as their particular communities. The team also includes program, administrative, and music staff, as well as an outstanding team of student staff. The University Chaplain serves individuals and communities beyond those served by the other chaplains, and the office supports tradition-specific and interfaith organizations, programs, and services University-wide.

Design the 2023 Class T-Shirt
We're inviting artists and budding artists from the incoming class to design the 2023 Class T-shirt! Follow 3 simple guidelines:
  1. Use a relatively simple design (no more than 3 colors).
  2. Create something easily distinguishable as a representation of Tufts (feel free to make use of the logo/mascot).
  3. Make sure the class year is easily omitted so that we can update the T-shirt for transfer students.
Email your submission to orientation@tufts.edu. The deadline to submit a design is July 14!
