A Public Works Operation Superintendent's Praise Music |
Dale Biggerstaff always preferred working with his hands. As a boy growing up in rural Illinois, he mended fences on the family farm and tinkered with broken machinery, making sure everything was running smoothly. In high school, he took shop classes instead of electives in the arts, and when it came time to get a job, he gravitated toward professions requiring manual labor.
Today, he is operations superintendent for the City of Brentwood’s Department of Public Works, which wouldn’t surprise anyone who knew him in high school, but most of his life, Biggerstaff has harbored a secret. The man with the graying beard and rough hands often is overwhelmed by music. He feels the rhythm deep in his chest, and if you stopped by Grace Church in Columbia, Tennessee, on a Sunday morning, you’d find him with a bass guitar in his hands, plucking and smiling and dancing to the church’s praise music.
“I’m a mover and dancer while I play,” he said. “I probably shouldn’t, but I just feel what I’m playing.”
