September 2023 • Coeur d'Alene, Idaho
SGA Travels to the Great Northwest
The Senior Golfers have been visiting Idaho, the Land of Many Waters since 1992, and have enjoying playing golf and feasting on the local seafood in the small and charming town of Coeur d'Alene -- the Heart of the Awl.
The event opened with a beautiful seafood dinner at the Coeur d'Alene Resort, overlooking Lake Coeur d'Alene. It was an honor to welcome newcomers Carole Sudar and John Visnick, who traveled to Coeur d'Alene from the Pittsburgh area. SGA Hall of Fame member Bill Suehs was recognized. Everyone enjoyed a lovely evening together.
Event winners at gross were newcomer Carole Sudar for the ladies and SGA veteran Jim Harrenga for the men. Jim took much delight in recounting his story of a nice misunderstanding at the Coeur d'Alene Resort. On his first morning to arrive, he phoned the resort's Room Service line, and asked for "six coffee pods" for Jane's and his breakfast coffee.  "Certainly," replied the staff member, "and how many coffee cups do you need with that?"
In his cheerful South Dakota manner, Jim answered, "Oh, we are all fine with the ones we have here." "Well ---- all right, then," was the response.
Imagine Jim and Jane's surprise when resort employees rang the hotel room doorbell at 7AM and were presenting six fullsize coffee carafes, ready to provide for a large morning celebration!  They had mistaken the South Dakota "six coffee pods," for Idaho's "six coffee pots."  Everyone had a great laugh and Jim and Jane were not charged for the single coffee carafe which they kept and enjoyed. Of course, in addition to his winner's gift certificate by SGA, JIm was presented with -- six coffee pods.
Low Net winners were Jane Harrenga and Bill Suehs.  SGA Best Ball Team winners were Carole Sudar, Jane Harrenga, John Visnick, and Bill Suehs. Close to pin winners were Jane & Jim Harrenga. Congratulations to all!

The Colorful Splendor of 30,000 Geraniums

For over three decades, The Coeur d'Alene Resort has been adorning its property with a sea of 30,000 Red Tango geraniums every year. This horticultural feat has become a beloved tradition, eagerly anticipated by locals and visitors alike. The geraniums serve as a vibrant symbol of the resort's founder, Duane Hagadone, SGA's very first contact person at the resort, as they were his mother’s favorite flowers.

Fifty plus team members of all departments of the resort enthusiastically participate in the planting first on “Geranium Hill," the large flower bed in front of the resort's main entrance. Once the hill is painted red with vibrancy and life, the gardening mission continues at the Event Center and Gardens, at the Coeur d’Alene Resort Golf Course, the Boardwalk Bridge, the Plaza Shops,  the Coeur d’Alene Press, the Marine Complex and the Silver Beach Marina.

This remarkable tradition, which occurs right before Mother's Day each year, not only showcases the resort's dedication to providing an unforgettable experience, but also serves as a celebration of the wonder that can be found in our beautiful natural world.
