BBQ/Oyster Roast A Sell Out!

Friday, November 17, 2023 saw a crowd of friends and families gathered to support the work of BEGINNINGS across the state. Wonderful weather, delicious food and beverages, and eagerness to help fund our mission were all on display. Thank you to the BEGINNINGS Board members who were so involved in this success, as well as to our staff. Enjoy some photos from the evening!

BEGINNINGS Receives JLR Grant

The Junior League of Raleigh (JLR) has awarded a grant in the amount of $6,650 to our Grants to Parents program. This grant, which comes from the proceeds of JLR's Annual A SHOPPING Spree event, will allow us to help more Triangle area parents of children who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing with emergency needs not covered by insurance, such as ear molds and trips to audiology appointments. Thank you to the Junior League of Raleigh! (Below, BEGINNINGS' Director of Development & Marketing, Ellen Fort, receiving the symbolic check).

Holiday Event Co-Sponsored by BEGINNINGS

BEGINNINGS and DHHS of North Carolina sponsored a holiday party on December 2 in Charlotte, which was organized by Triunfa Caracol Latino, a Facebook Parent Support Group for parents with children who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing. A wonderful time was had by all!

Q&A: Parent Educator Chelsea Cashion

Q: Tell us a little about your background.
A:  I have taught for a total of 10 years in the public school setting.  I have taught  in the inclusion, itinerant, and dormitory.  I did get my Masters in School Administration.
Q: How did you first hear about BEGINNINGS?
A: Being in Deaf Education, I have worked with Parent Educators during IEPs and other events. I have always admired the support they provide to the parents.
Q: What drew you to the type of work you are doing at BEGINNINGS?
A: Being a classroom teacher for 10 years and getting my Masters, I wanted to be able to do more for the parents. That is exactly what BEGINNINGS does.
Q: What is your role with BEGINNINGS?
A: I am a Parent Educator. My role is to teach and provide all resources available to the parents, so they can be confident and empowered in their decision-making through their journey of having a child with hearing loss.
