It is that time of year again! We are proud to share a Hofstra milestone event, the University’s 30th Annual Gala. For three decades, this tradition has brought together members of our community to recognize excellence, strengthen partnerships, and celebrate the work that has been done to expand access to scholarships, advance innovative academic programs, and enhance student success.

 

This year’s Gala honors Hofstra Athletics. From conference championships and academic honors to community service initiatives, Hofstra Athletics amplifies school spirit and unites the University community. The Gala will take place on Thursday, May 7, 2026, at the David S. Mack Sports and Exhibition Complex. The evening will begin with a cocktail reception at 6:30 p.m., followed by dinner and dancing at 7:30 p.m. For more information or to purchase tickets visit hofstra.edu/gala.

Associate to the President for Government and Community Affairs 

Over 1,000 children received dental examinations, fluoride varnish applications, oral hygiene instruction, and nutritional counseling, provided by a volunteer team from Hofstra University’s Master of Public Health program at a Give Kids A Smile event. Through a collaborative effort with the Nassau County Dental Society, Hofstra’s Master of Public Health (MPH) program plays a crucial role in organizing and facilitating the annual event. The Hofstra University Museum of Art is planning a spring 2027 exhibition that will feature works from its permanent collection selected by pairs of mentors and mentees from Hofstra and the local community. Interested applicants may span a variety of educational partnerships – teacher/student, professional/apprentice, peer-to-peer, or more informal working relationships. During spring break, 8 Hofstra University students embarked on a four-day service initiative trip to Arizona, led by Anita Ellis, director of Hofstra’s Office of Commuting Student Services and Community Outreach. Their schedules were filled with volunteer work; exploring the beautiful landscapes of the Grand Canyon, Sedona, and Monument Valley; and learning about Native American culture. Read more here.  

As Artificial Intelligence rapidly reshapes careers and the world around us, Hofstra is preparing its students to meet the moment. This fall, the University will launch a cutting-edge interdisciplinary certificate program, open to all undergraduates. Designed to function like a “concentration,” the program does not extend the time or cost required to earn a degree. Read more here.  

The energy inside Hofstra’s Science & Innovation Center (SIC) felt more like Wall Street than a classroom when more than 100 Long Island students raced to grow $500,000 simulated portfolios in real time. The inaugural Junor Achievement of New York (JA of New York) Stock Market Challenge at Hofstra brought together 110 students from Baldwin High School, Freeport High School, Brentwood Freshman Center, and South Middle School (Brentwood), transforming rooms 123-125 in the SIC into a fast-paced simulation of global markets. Our Unfinished Revolution(s) is an exhibition presented during the U.S. Semi-quincentennial commemorating the signing of the Declaration of Independence. The exhibition is presented in conjunction with Untold Stories of Revolution: A Hofstra University Initiative for the 250th Anniversary of the American Revolution. The Hofstra University Museum of Art will offer visitors an opportunity to reflect on the nation’s history and consider its future by engaging with art that poses questions about the founding document’s historical legacy.

When CB's dog dies from rabies, CB begins to question the existence of an afterlife. His best friend is too burnt out to provide any coherent speculation; his sister has gone goth; his ex-girlfriend has recently been institutionalized; and his other friends are too inebriated to give him any sort of solace. But a chance-meeting with an artistic kid, the target of this group's bullying, offers CB a peace of mind and sets in motion a friendship that will push teen angst to the very limits. Drug use, suicide, eating disorders, teen violence, rebellion and sexual identity collide and careen toward an ending that's both haunting and hopeful.

Fifty-one years ago, a dedicated and caring group of volunteers met for the first time to raise scholarship funds to make it possible for deserving students from Hempstead High School to attend Hofstra University.

 

The Hempstead for Hofstra/Hofstra for Hempstead Committee awards scholarships and strengthens the bond between the Village of Hempstead and Hofstra University with the annual presentation of the prestigious Unispan Award. This award is presented to individuals whose professional or personal lives have enriched the Hempstead community. Organizations may also be chosen for service to their community.
