"The stone that the builders rejected has become the cornerstone; by the Lord has this been done, and it is wonderful in our eyes." (Psalm 118 and Matthew 21:42).

This famous scriptural passage also appears in Mark, Luke, Peter, and the Acts of the Apostles. It is a popular and oft-mentioned passage in the New Testament. It basically means Jesus was crucified by His own people, yet He became the center of our salvation. As we near the end of our Lenten journey and enter into Holy Week and the Easter season, we are hopeful that we will not reject Jesus, but accept Him joyfully into our hearts as the guiding force in our lives.

Hope and spring go hand in hand, and the good feelings that go along with both are alive and well here on the hill! It is well known that with spring break in the rear-view mirror, the end of the school year and all of its celebratory events are nearly upon us. For us at our Catholic, Holy Cross school, there is a very important message that we model and preach daily to our students; be the best you can be every day, and strive for excellence in all you do. We are constantly renewing ourselves from the inside out. As we prepare to graduate another outstanding class of seniors, we are also busily welcoming a new group of freshman into our lifelong Irish community. This constant renewal calls us to always strive to improve our practices in the classroom and in all that we do.  The resurrection of Jesus and the renewal of spring are annual reminders to grow and bloom anew each year.

With that as the backdrop, we are looking forward to our next 100 years. We recently announced we are moving forward with our plans for the official design phase of our Innovation Center. Due to the ongoing success of our Centennial Campaign, thanks to many of you, we are able to boldly move forward. The actual building will not be the only innovation happening here as we begin our second century. Our entire staff, which we refer to as educators, is in the early stages of exploring how to create a plan to meet the needs of our students of today and tomorrow. This planning will begin in earnest this summer, and will be a regular theme of communications to our community going forward. At the core of our change process will be the creation of a culture of respect, sharing, and collaboration. I am very excited to be able to share this news as it unfolds.

Our advancement and enrollment teams continue their steadfast work. As always, we rely heavily on your support in these areas. You can help greatly by sharing the good news of our school with your friends, coworkers, and neighbors. We also ask for your assistance during our All Out Irish Day of Giving on April 30. We must continue to raise funds to support our annual needs, as well as our campaign goals. As a private, independent, Catholic, Holy Cross high school, we are nearly 100% dependent on fundraising to continue our good work. We invite you to join us in our noble work of educating the hearts and minds of our students. Your gift of any size will always be stewarded with great care and gratitude.

Finally, as we prepare for Easter and its joyous season, I challenge you to make this Easter the best one yet for you and your family. There is no promise of another Easter here on earth, so let’s celebrate each day that we can share the Good News of the risen Christ, the cornerstone of our lives.

Peace and Irish blessings to you and yours,
Robert A. Bridges Signature

Cathedral Named A Four Star School

Once again, Cathedral High School has been named a Four Star School. The Indiana Department of Education announced the 2017-18 Four Star Schools in order to recognize great schools in Indiana.

"Receiving designation as a Four Star School reflects academic excellence among students, educators, and the administration," says Dr. Jennifer McCormick, Indiana Superintendent of Public Instruction.

To receive a Four Star designation, a school must receive an "A" on the state's A-F accountability system, and have excellent ISTEP pass rates. Congratulations to all of our students and educators on their hard work. Cathedral High School continues to live out the Holy Cross value of Excellence.

                               Shamrock Scholars

What a blessing for us to have so many donors attend our recent Shamrock Scholars luncheon. The Shamrock Scholars Program was created by alumni and friends who wanted more than a way to give. They wanted a way to give back and a chance to change a life. Shamrock Scholar donors commit to providing need-based tuition assistance for a specific student at Cathedral for all four years of his/her education. Donors are invited to remain anonymous or build a relationship with their grantee.
God bless all of our Shamrock Scholar donors! Thank you for changing lives and helping Cathedral maintain her promise of socioeconomic diversity. You can visit our website to learn more about the Shamrock Scholars Program.
