Health care frequently overlooks what is going on in patients’ lives outside of clinics and hospitals that could adversely affect their health or deter them from seeking health care services. As a result, many of these patients are falling through the cracks. In an effort to find solutions, the NIH has awarded a $2.7 million, four-year grant to Andrea Wallace, PhD, RN, in the College of Nursing.

UNEQUAL COVID COMPLICATIONS DESPITE SIMILAR MEDICAL HISTORIES

Blacks and Native Americans with health problems prior to contracting COVID-19 are more likely to have longer hospital stays, require treatment with a ventilator, and have a higher risk of death than Whites who have similar preexisting conditions, according to a new nationwide study led by U of U Health scientists.

"TEST TO PLAY" AND "TEST TO STAY" KEPT STUDENTS IN SPORTS AND SCHOOL

To help Utah students stay safe, Utah Department of Health implemented COVID-19 testing programs in collaboration with Utah schools and U of U Health. These programs helped students participate in sports and stay in school while likely reducing viral spread. The results published in CDC MMWR.
