Tips for Grads: Create an elevator pitch |
At some point, you are going to be asked to tell an audience about yourself. An elevator pitch allows you to briefly introduce yourself while conveying a point and creating a connection with your audience. Here are some tips when it comes to creating your elevator pitch:
Cater to your audience. Make sure to share relevant details with your audience. Your potential future employer may not need to know about your stamp collecting hobby, but be sure to convey any relevant employment, skills, and appropriate experience.
Include a call to action. An elevator pitch, also known as a sales pitch, should include an action item for your audience. If you are giving your pitch during a job interview, make sure to let the employee know how you can improve the work if hired!
Practice until it’s second nature. Never hesitate again when being asked to introduce yourself! The more you prepare and practice your pitch, the more natural and effective it will sound when you present it to your audience.
