R.I. vaccination updates
R.I. vaccination updates
Friday, April 2, 2021
Consistent with other highly residential university campuses and the upward trajectory the northeast and R.I. have experienced in the past two weeks, on Monday Bryant’s COVID-19 surveillance testing identified an uptick in positive cases. We informed the community and moved quickly to implement proactive measures including testing the full-population March 31 and April 1, with nearly 2,800 tests in 48 hours.
Since Monday’s rise in positive cases and in positivity test rate, we have had a significant decline in both. The decision to implement full population testing over two days was effective. The daily positivity test rate dropped from 2.5% to well below 1% and the 7-day moving average positively rate is on the decline once again.
Keeping our community safe through the end of the semester and Commencement will require ongoing commitment, but we can do it if we all continue to work together. Please make sure to be safe during this holiday weekend. If you leave campus and gather with family and friends, take care and exercise caution so that you return to campus healthy.
Essential protocols that limit social gathering size remain critical. Social gatherings are how COVID-19 spreads, and to keep everyone safe we are continuing increased Public Safety in our residents halls and townhouses. It is important that all members of the community continue wearing masks, maintaining social distance, frequent handwashing, and avoiding unnecessary trips off campus. If we all work together we can keep Bryant strong and finish strong.
Bryant University Commencement Weekend 2021
Commencement is a cherished academic tradition that recognizes a key milestone for our graduates and their families. Vaccination Updates
We know that COVID-19 vaccines are effective at preventing COVID-19 disease, especially severe disease, and that COVID vaccines are held to the same safety standards as other vaccinations. Bryant strongly encourages all members of our community to track their vaccine eligibility and get vaccinated as soon as they become eligible.
Rhode Island is on schedule to open vaccination eligibility to everyone age 16 and above who lives, works, or goes to school in Rhode Island by April 19. This includes all Bryant students, faculty, and staff. See the updated timeline
We are fortunate that R.I. continues to be in the top 10 states nationally for the number of people who have received at least one dose and fourth in the country for the number of people fully vaccinated. More than a half a million doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in our state.
Beginning Monday, April 5, people age 50 to 59 can sign up to be vaccinated at pharmacies, and at local and regional vaccination sites. Starting Tuesday, April 6, they can also sign up for appointments at state-run sites on www.vaccinateRI.org. New appointments for state-run sites open every Tuesday at 9 a.m. and every Friday at 5 p.m.
If you live in CT and are age 16 and above, you are eligible already. If you live in MA, check the most current information on vaccine eligibility here.
