Please Have Your Voice Heard

Resolutions for the 2021 WSMA HOD have been submitted.  
WSMA has posted the resolutions to their website along with a bylaws proposal that would significantly alter their governance, and would impact all medical societies throughout the state by reducing their voting delegate numbers by one-half (50%). That would mean KCMS lose 27 seats in the HOD.
Please, use the links below to weigh in via the WSMA virtual reference committee to ensure your voice is heard. These online forums are designed to give physicians a voice in state policymaking. 
You can comment with the link for Reference Committee B (professional and internal affairs) and/or Reference Committee C (health care economics/reform).

Draft Anesthesiologist Assistant Sunrise
The WA State DOH is sharing a draft sunrise review for public comment.
Comments due October 2, 2021. 
The proposal under review would regulate a new health profession WA, licensed anesthesiologist assistant, to assess whether it meets the sunrise criteria in RCW 18.120.010 for creating a new health profession. The applicant group for this proposal is the WA State Society of Anesthesiologists.
Please email your comments on the draft report/recommendations to anesthesiology-sunrise@doh.wa.gov. Here is the draft report and the appendix:

Draft Midwifery Sunrise

The WA State DOH is sharing a draft sunrise review for public comment.
Comments due on October 2, 2021.
The proposal under review would increase the midwifery scope of practice to add “limited prescription authority for contraception and medications and therapies for various common conditions in pregnancy and postpartum, for those with appropriate training” and assess whether it meets the sunrise criteria in RCW 18.120.010 for expanding a regulated health profession’s scope of practice. The applicant group for this proposal is the Midwives Association of Washington.
The department is accepting public comments on this draft report to the legislature. Please email your comments on the draft report/recommendations to mwsunrise@doh.wa.gov.   Here are the draft report and appendix:

Draft Optometry Scope of Practice Sunrise

The WA State DOH is sharing a draft sunrise review for public comment.
Comments due on October 2, 2021.
The proposal under review would increase the optometrist scope of practice to assess whether it meets the sunrise criteria in RCW 18.120.010 for expanding a regulated health profession’s scope of practice. The proposed changes include expanding the medications optometrists prescribe and therapeutic procedures they perform consistent with national standards. The applicant group for this proposal is the Optometric Physicians of Washington.
The department is accepting public comments on this draft report to the legislature. Please email your comments on the draft report/recommendations to optom-sunrise@doh.wa.gov.Here are the draft report and appendix:
