Hello! I'm Vanessa Chan, and I serve as a teaching professor and advisor for the NSBH major. I'm one of the instructors for Introduction to Cognitive Neuroscience, and I teach a variety of other psychology and NSBH electives about how we process sound, music, and other arts. I hail from north of the border in Canada and did all of my undergraduate and graduate education there, including my PhD at the University of Toronto, where I studied the ways people process speech in noisy environments (if you've had trouble hearing someone next to you at a home game, you know the feeling). I came to Notre Dame in 2020 and mostly teach nowadays, but I dabble in some research projects here and there - if you're interested in how music portrays certain emotions, let's talk! Outside of work I love making music (I sing with the Basilica Schola on campus), playing video games, trying new restaurants, and traveling. Here's a photo of me at a restaurant on my holiday trip to Hong Kong!
