A NOTE FROM FRANK SESNO

Dear SMPA Students,What a wonderful semester it has been!  All of us here at SMPA are on the front lines of media and politics - with 2020 promising to be one of the most consequential election campaigns of modern history and an ongoing debate about the role of media and the future of journalism, we each play a vital part as we move forward. I am excited to see what the spring semester will bring and the new faculty and students who will join us that will bring new ideas and events.  Thank you to all of you who make the SMPA community distinctive, close, and thoughtful.  Wishing you all the happiest of holiday seasons and the very best for learning, growth, and adventure in the New Year. Looking forward to an amazing 2020!

Thanks,
Frank Sesno
Director, GW School of Media and Public Affairs

ERIC BLAKE FLAYTON WRITES OPINION PIECE FOR NYT
"Writing for the New York Times was an exceptional challenge, especially considering my pitch was so controversial. I knew there'd be an array of both support and criticism, but I am passionate about the Jewish student experience, so I knew I was doing the right thing. I spent weeks trying to find the right words, the right ideas, and the right examples to really serve this cause well. It then took more weeks of re-editing, rewriting, and recrafting, but all for the better. This problem needs to be addressed, debated, and debated again. I'm glad I could offer my own voice to the discussion," Eric Blake Flayton, SMPA 2020.
GW POLL FOUND WARREN GAINING GROUND AMONG DEMOCRATS
The GW Politics Poll that went into the field just 2 days after House Democrats announced their impeachment inquiry and right before Bernie Sander's heart attack, suggested that Elizabeth Warren is taking the lead among Democrats.
