Fulbright Global Scholar Continues Research Despite Pandemic

As an environmental sociologist working in the field of engineering, Chien-fei Chen thrives on unique, multidisciplinary research questions. In 2018, she became interested in pursuing a multidisciplinary, multi-cultural research project that would explore issues surrounding the equality of renewable energy, specifically the differences between Western and Chinese cultures, and how new energy solutions can impact vulnerable areas.

Benjamin Parker, an assistant professor in the Department of Microbiology, is a member of the 2020 Pew Scholars Program in the Biomedical Sciences. The Pew Scholars are undertaking groundbreaking research projects aimed at advancing human health.

Jennifer Tourville, clinical assistant professor of nursing at UT, has witnessed firsthand the suffering of babies exposed to drugs in the womb, especially opiates. As a result, she helped start Project HOPE, which focuses on helping rural communities mitigate the consequences of the opioid crisis.

The 2020 Haslam Summer Scholars Research Awards program has awarded 28 grants totaling $683,000 to Haslam College of Business faculty members to conduct high-quality research. Now in its seventh year, the program has funded nearly $3 million in faculty research.
