Summer Letter Position Numbers
For those completing Summer Wage Agreements, please remember the position number should be your departmental pooled number, not individual position numbers.  If you are not sure which position number you should use, please contact your HR Partner!

Student Wage Increase
The student wage structure has been revised as a result of July's minimum wage increase.  Please note that the Wage Cap has not increased and will remain at $16.50 per hour.  All current student employees earning less than $11.25 per hour on July 1 will automatically have the increase applied on that date.  The updated pay range chart can be found at this link: https://www.pdx.edu/hr/recruitment-selection-and-hiring-of-student-employees#DRP

Work Study Reminders

Don't forget that all work study awards ended on June 15 so if you have a student working beyond June 15th, you will need to complete a new EPAF.
Any work study hours not submitted, posted, and paid in FY17, will be charged at 100% to the departmental index code.

Student Employment "Term Off"

Student employees may work while not enrolled for a maximum of ONE term per calendar year.  This is commonly referred to as a "grace term", "vacation term", or "term off".  To learn more about eligibility, please visit:   https://www.pdx.edu/hr/student-employment-requirements#TOFF
As a reminder, graduating student employees may only continue working in a student appointment through the end of the pay period in which graduation falls, but not beyond.  Graduating students pre-registered or admitted for classes at PSU may remain student employees during the intervening term.

There are times that an employee may be called to serve on jury duty or for an appearance in court, legislative committee or judicial or quasi-judicial body as a witness in response to a subpoena or other direction by proper authority for matters other than the employee's officially assigned duties. For detailed information on this leave benefit, visit our Jury Duty/Court Appearances page.
Length of Service Increase for PSUFA
Per Article 12, Section 5 of the PSUFA contract, certain adjuncts will be eligible for a Length of Service Increase effective this fall.  This increase will be applied to the per credit rate after the overall increase has been applied.  For example, someone who is at $892 per credit, will be increased to $928 per credit and then will receive their length of service increase on top of that.
Lists of eligible adjuncts, including the amount of the calculated increase, will be sent to departments as soon as completed.  Adjuncts will also receive notification of their increase via e mail.
Increased rates do not need to be entered on the letters until increase lists are sent out.

PSUFA Increases
Effective 9/16/17, minimum per credit rates for adjunct faculty will increase to $928 per credit.  For those making more than the current minimum rate, the per credit rate will be increased by $9 per credit.
Hourly research rates for Adjunct Research Assistants will increase to $21.83 per hour, or $.21 per hour for those over the minimum.  For Adjunct Research Associates, hourly rates will increase to $23.54 per hour, or $.23 per hour for those over the minimum.
Departments should be using the new rates on the new AY letters.
Oregon Mimimum Wage
Reminder: The Oregon minimum wage will increase to $11.25/hour on July 1, 2017 in the Portland metro area (Multnomah, Washington, and Clackama counties).

Crucial Conversations Training

Crucial Conversations is a course that teaches skills for creating alignment and agreement by fostering open dialogue around high-stakes, emotional, or risky topics - at all levels of the organization.  By learning how to speak and be heard (and encouraging others to do the same), you'll begin to surface the best ideas, make the highest-quality decisions, and then act on your decisions with unity and commitment.  This training is based on the Crucial Conversations book and curriculum created by Vital Smarts.  More information is available at www.vitalsmarts.com.

Hiring Out-of-State Employees Reminder

Out-of-State Employees are employees who will reside and perform their PSU work off-site in a US location outside of Oregon, including current employees relocating out of Oregon for whom you want to continue employment. Advance authorization must be obtained for each potential employee before a job offer can be made, regardless of other PSU employees working in that state. Follow the Out-of-State Employment Process, and submit a “Request for Authorization to Hire an Employee Residing and Performing Work Outside of Oregon” to obtain approval before you make an employment offer.
Employment laws, payroll tax regulations, workers’ compensation coverage and unemployment insurance vary significantly by state. In addition, some states place restrictions on the offering of on-line courses if the University also employs a faculty member who teaches on-line from that state (i.e. the faculty member resides and works in that state). To allow adequate time to obtain PSU authorization, and to coordinate regulatory compliance in the other state, we recommend submitting the authorization request 6 to 10 weeks before the proposed hire date.
HR will notify you of authorization to hire; then a job offer can be made and a Letter of Offer with an attached Telecommuting Authorization can be issued for acceptance. At this point HR will also begin coordination with you, the hiring department, and the prospective employee to obtain mandatory hiring forms (including I-9, State specific tax forms, Workers’ Compensation and Unemployment coverage, etc.).
This process is mandatory when hiring or rehiring employees who will reside and perform their PSU work off-site in a US location outside of Oregon. This policy does not cover or authorize employment in the US Territories or other countries.
More information and registration for all sessions is avalable on the HR Training web page.
