Seeking New Sites - WI Alfalfa Yield & Persistence (WAYP) Program

The goal of the WAYP program includes providing an objective data set to researchers seeking to answer questions about alfalfa growth, yield and quality. Now in its 18th year, we are looking for additional sites for the program!

Interested producers must have alfalfa seeded in 2023, and be willing to measure yield and pull samples from each crop for the life of the stand.

Do You Grow Soybeans? Are you interested in soil health?

The UW Bean Team is looking for help from Wisconsin Soybean farmers, crop consultants, UW Extension, and industry professionals to help connect cover crop usage to soil health metrics and soybean yield. What we need from you: 6" soil samples from fields that will be soybeans in 2024 and field management history. What you'll get: 100% confidentiality and the results from your fields.

Survey: Establishing On-Farm Wildflower Strips

Cornell University is engaging in research related to establishment barriers of wildflower strips in field crop settings. This survey is part of a project in the works focused on using seed pellets to establish wildflower strips. The basic idea of the project is to put multiple small wildflower seeds into a seed pellet the size and shape of a field crop seed. These pellets could then be planted using standard grain drills/planters, significantly decreasing the labor required to establish wildflower strips.

NEW - Automatic Milking Systems (AMS) User Group
The University of Wisconsin-Madison Division of Extension created the Automatic Milking Systems (AMS) user group for dairy producers currently using AMS. The user group provides participants with opportunities to collaborate with peers, access expert guidance, contribute to research efforts, and improve farming practices, ultimately enhancing efficiency, productivity, and profitability on their dairy farms.

There will be three meetings per year, with 10 to 20 farms per group. These meetings will be held at various locations throughout Wisconsin, along with optional farm tours. The first meeting is Tuesday, April 9 in Wausau OR Zoom.

A continued identification of issues and planning of future field trials and study projects will be discussed during the meetings with UW faculty, staff, and experts from the industry.
