Galveston Island is where Juneteenth began. This June, the island honors the 160th Anniversary with a full calendar of events that uplift freedom, culture, and community. From parades and performances to storytelling, art, and education, there are countless ways to reflect, celebrate, and connect.
And now it’s official. Galveston has been named the Juneteenth Capital of Texas, recognizing the city’s pivotal role in the history of emancipation and its ongoing commitment to sharing that story.
Spend a day exploring or plan a long weekend. Either way, you’ll find meaningful experiences that bring the stories of Juneteenth to life.
