Staying active over
summer months

Michigan summers are the best, and we understand the importance of making the most of those few months of beautiful weather! And guess what?! Research shows that outdoor exercise provides greather benefits than exercising indoors. From increased energy to decreased stress, staying active outside opens the door to positive feelings and endless opportunities!
Exercising outdoors can burn more calories, elevate your self-esteem, vary your work out,  save you money, allow you to disconnect, and give you a greater sense of well-being!
Aside from the benefits of sweating outdoors, it's important to keep in mind safety in warm weather, such as exercising at the right time, staying hydrated, dressing accordingly, and listening to your body (and your doctor). Learn ways to stay active in the summer heat
It's okay to ditch the gym for a little while, especially since West Michigan is full of outdoor adventures (and May is also National Bike Month). From biking and walking routes on campus and local parks to beaches and hiking trails, there is something for everyone!
Be active and live healthy, Lakers!

WHY DO YOU REC?

Focus on physical
and mental health

"I participate in Campus Rec programs and services because I love being active. Plus, it's just FUN! I have met some cool people, and the relaxed environment makes it easy to be productive and get things done.
Through Campus Rec, I have been able to teach myself to be more disciplined when it comes to my own self. I have also been able to continue working on my physical and mental health. " -JaJuan Collins

Valuable lessons and impact on others

"Participating in group exercise classes, triathlon club, and teaching swim lessons helped me stay active, realize my passion for promoting exercise as medicine, and motivated me towards the physical therapy program. Teaching swim lessons through Campus Rec has shown me how much of an impact I can have on others and taught me valuable lessons for my professional life." -Marie Bourke
