Dear #RPSStrong Family,
Tonight's updates:
| |
| Remembering William L. Prentiss – It is with profound sadness that I announce the passing of Mr. William L. Prentiss, the former band director at Huguenot HS (1999-2008 and 2012-2013). A steadfast supporter of RPS, Mr. Prentiss served as a mentor to current music teachers and contributed to the growth of Huguenot's band program. He was a positive force in the Richmond music world and will be greatly missed. Please take a moment to read more about his life and legacy, courtesy of the Virginia Music Educators Association.

| Black History Month Reels – Enormous gratitude to Armstrong HS seniors and Battle of the Brains scholars, Cassidy and Jackson, for sharing their story yesterday. Today's story comes to us from Xavion Hill, a John Marshall HS student who dreams of making it to the big screen!

- A huge shout-out to the office associates at Richmond Technical Center. These ladies are extremely kind and professional to everyone coming into the office. Their pleasant personalities are appreciated. They really go all out to be extra helpful. Kudos, ladies. Job well done!
- I would like to shout-out two CIS coordinators, Ms. Casey Rogers at Thomas Jefferson High School and Mr. Anthony Burley at John Marshall High School. These individuals have worked countless hours during and outside of the school day for our students. They also have been an integral to assisting teachers with navigating relationship building and accommodations for students. Thank you for all that you provide to our kids.
- Kirsten Craig is so committed to her students and their learning. She shows up every day with not only incredible lessons and plans, but also dedication to their success. She is so knowledgeable in the area of exceptional education and has gone above and beyond expectations this school year. She is an amazing asset to the John B. Cary team!
- Ms. McAllister works tirelessly to make sure her students get everything they need to find success. She is a creative problem solver and is always striving to learn more, do more, and be the best teacher possible. She is a bright light and a great friend in the Cary ES community!
- Dr. Holland has been a wonderful art teacher for the Cary Elementary community. He has provided a space for students to learn art techniques, make projects, and reflect on personal decisions in their learning. Visual art class is one of the best places in school for students to learn how to make independent creative decisions. A school is not complete without a thoughtful, invested visual art teacher like Dr. Holland!
- Dr. H., the art teacher at John B. Cary, truly puts students first and believes in the power of connecting students and their environment. He is a leader with his ideas and always proceeds with the kindness and compassion you want from a teacher. Thank you, Dr. H., for all you have done for Cougar Nation!
- Thank you to all of the school counselors, psychologists, social workers, and family liaisons for making a difference in the lives of RPS students and families!
- I'd like to shout-out Jeremiah Camp, the future center navigator at George Wythe High School. Mr. Camp goes above and beyond daily to support GWHS students on their paths to college, careers, and military. GWHS is very lucky to have him!
- I wanted to take a moment to recognize Michelle Hudacsko for her consistent support, collaboration, and dedication to our RPS family. Regardless of how incredibly busy she may be, she ensures that she takes the time to hear our concerns and needs, and provides swift next steps. She took the time to meet with me and provided me with some much needed guidance that has truly encouraged me to keep excelling. I appreciate you, Michelle!
- I want to recognize just how phenomenal Mrs. Kacy Mosby is to our Maymont family. She comes to work each day with a delightful spirit, beautiful smile, and a committed heart to support the needs of our students, staff, and families. No matter the task, Mrs. Mosby is always ready to step up and lead in a way that brings joy to our school. Mrs. Mosby, I truly appreciate your daily hard work and dedication to our school.
- Shout-out to Ms. Synovia Johnson at Maymont Preschool for doing an amazing job with our Peacock Paradise Lounge, aka the staff wellness lounge. She has dedicated her time, funds, and leadership to ensuring our lounge is cozy and stocked, and provides a pleasant environment for all staff members to visit and relax when needed. Kudos, Ms. Johnson, for your support!
