Open Now: Applications for the Master Teacher Leadership Development Program!

Enhance your teaching skills, foster scholarship in education, and develop your leadership potential. Apply for the Master Teacher Leadership Development Program (MTLDP)! All full-time basic science, clinical science, and health sciences SMHS faculty involved in teaching are welcome to apply. 
The 24th cohort will run from September 3rd, 2025 - June 17th, 2026. Classes are every Wednesday from 12:30pm-5:00pm; in-person attendance to all classes is required.

Call for Applications: The Quill & Quirk Writing Lab: A Medical Education Researchers Community of Practice

The GW SMHS Center for Faculty Excellence is offering a professional development program writing lab aligned with the educational pillar, designed and led by Dr. Zareen Zaidi, Associate Director for Education Research and Scholarship, to help faculty develop: 
  • Essential writing skills for medical education research and grant application 
  • Basic skills for the ethical use of AI tools to enhance the research process 
  • A community of practice to undertake, collaborate, and support scholarly writing 
The Lab will consist of 2-day intensive face-to-face sessions from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm at Ross Hall on February 20th & 21st, 2024. This will be followed by once-a-month remote or in-person (depending on the groups preference) hour-long writing meetings for the rest of the academic year.

Register for the CFE Teaching Essentials Series

The Teaching Essentials Series program is a series of one-hour workshops for scientists, clinicians, researchers, post-docs, and graduate students who want to learn more about key aspects of teaching & learning. Each session has an online component consisting of short videos and brief exercises to do on your own prior to the session. Participants then attend a 1-hour interactive virtual workshop session to apply concepts and get feedback from peers.
Sessions are held monthly from August 2024 - December 2024 as indicated above from 12:00 - 1:00 pm via Zoom.

Dr. Manjari Dimri

Join the CFE as we highlight Dr. Manjari Dimri, MD, MAEd, a biochemistry researcher and health professions educator. Dr. Dimri discusses her career path and how she ended up at GW. She discusses her multiple teaching and leadership roles in MD, PA, and undergraduate and graduate biochemistry programs. She also previews some future work within the Department of Biochemistry and opportunities for collaboration across the GWU campus. Read the full interview here.

Education Technology Resources & Sessions

Register for the next workshop from the AI Technology Series
This series is designed to equip you with the latest tools and techniques for integrating AI into your academic and professional endeavors. Exemplary faculty and staff from across GW will lead these workshops to discuss the intersection of technology and academic medicine, with a special emphasis on Artificial Intelligence (AI).
The AI Edge in Academia: Unlocking Time for Teaching and Research - December 2nd, 2024 (12:00-1:00 pm). Register for the virtual workshop is here

The session will explore how AI-driven tools can streamline essential faculty workflow processes such as crafting letters of recommendation (LORs), generating biography templates, summarizing course evaluations, and drafting end-of-year faculty reports (Lyterati). By integrating AI, faculty can enhance efficiency and focus on higher-impact activities, including teaching and research. Participants will also gain insights into optimizing AI tools for handling tasks like course evaluation summaries and drafting narratives such as end-of-year Lyterati reports. Additionally, the session will address similarities and valuable differences between ChatGPT and Perplexity. Participants will leave the session with tips for crafting prompts and real-world examples of how AI can unlock new levels of productivity.

CFE Faculty Education Technology Support Office Hours

Wednesdays from 12:00-1:00 p.m. 

Do you need help designing an educational session or using a new teaching technology? Teddy Hristov, the CFE Senior Instructional Designer, holds weekly office hours to support faculty. These office hours are designated for discussing and practicing the best use of educational technology and pedagogical teaching and learning methods. Do not hesitate to contact her if you have questions about completing a session design worksheet.
