IADLEST's National Certification Program
John Curnutt, Assistant Director

The ALERRT Program recently completed the International Association of Directors of Law Enforcement Standards and Training (IADLEST) National Certification process for several of our courses.  IADLEST launched the Nation Certification Program (NCP) to establish law enforcement training standards and “best practices” relating to improved professionalism and skill sets for our nations’ first responders.  NCP courses are recognized nationally and designed to count towards officers’ mandatory in-service training requirements.  The courses certified are:

Active Attack Integrated Response
Active Attack Integrated Response – Train the Trainer
Active Attack Response – Level 1
Active Attack Response – Level 1 Train-the-Trainer
Solo Officer Rapid Deployment (SORD)
Solo Officer Rapid Deployment – Train-the-Trainer
Civilian Response to Active Shooter Events (CRASE) – Train-the-Trainer

Obtaining accreditation for these courses helps assure agencies across the nation that these courses adhere to national and departmental requirements, policies, and practices as they relate to standards and training.  This will also improve documentation and record keeping after the training is completed.

We appreciate our friendship and collaboration with the staff at IADLEST throughout this process, and look forward to more in the future.  We also appreciate the tireless efforts of our nations’ first responders to continually protect our communities.

Stay safe and well.

Dwayne Sander
Director of Information Technology
How long have you been with ALERRT? Since Dec 2012, so nearly 9 years.
What does your day-to-day look like at ALERRT? Varies from helping someone with their printer to doing development and testing on the website.  It always involves a pot of BRCC’s CAF, however.

What’s your favorite thing about working at ALERRT? My favorite thing about working at ALERRT is how it is unlike working anywhere else. Between the mission that we have, the people that I get to work with, and the range of things that are done, there really aren’t any other jobs like this one.

What was your first job or an unusual/interesting job you’ve had outside of ALERRT? My first job was sweeping/mopping a tea store in high school, and I was paid in pounds of loose leaf tea.

What’s one thing you couldn’t live without? My daughter, River. I can’t imagine my life without her anymore.
If you could have any superpower, what would it be and why? To be able to pause time – just to catch up on sleep, work, etc.
Favorite movie or TV Show? Firefly. Anyone that works around me probably knows this. This is also where my daughter got her name.
What chore do you absolutely hate doing? Sleeping. I hate that it takes so much time, and I hate that it is required. That said, I probably wouldn’t mind it so much if I wasn’t so bad at it.
Jonathan Burns
Logistics Technician
How long have you been with ALERRT?
I will be at 1 year on June 29th, 2021.
What does your day-to-day look like at ALERRT? I am a Logistics Tech in the warehouse, making sure all kits are prepped and flipped in according to standards along with maintaining the ALERRT Range.

What’s your favorite thing about working at ALERRT? I would say working with the professionals on the Logistics team is my favorite part.
What’s one thing you couldn’t live without? My dad, he is a great leader and father figure and has formed me into the man I am today.

What is one thing you have yet to cross off your bucket list? Join the United States Military in some sort of Special Forces group.

If you could time travel, where would you go and why? I would go back to the 1830’s during Texas’ Independence. My family has a history of helping during the Texas Revolution, from the Come and Take it flag to the Battle at the Alamo.
What’s your biggest pet peeve? Loud chewing, can't stand it.
What book would you currently recommend reading? Other than the Bible, I would recommend “Leadership and Training for the Fight” by Paul Howe.
