Dear NYU International Students and Scholars:
We are writing to follow up on our update from last week and to reiterate our support for you throughout your academic journey.
As of this writing, US Embassies and Consulates have yet to resume the scheduling of new student visa appointments, though they continue to honor those appointments scheduled before the pause – and in fact, we have heard from some of you who have successfully received your visas over the past week.
For now, if you do not yet have a visa, please continue with the process (information for students | information for scholars), and if you are awaiting a visa appointment, please continue to check your embassy or consulate’s scheduling page. We will, of course, send out an email as soon as we hear that the booking system has officially been reopened.
You have also likely seen the news that the White House announced new travel restrictions that will affect citizens of the following countries: Afghanistan, Burundi, Burma (Myanmar), Chad, Cuba, Republic of the Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Haiti, Iran, Laos, Libya, Sierra Leone, Somalia, Sudan, Togo, Turkmenistan, Venezuela, and Yemen. If you are from one of those countries, we will be following up with you separately.
Please let me reiterate that we understand these developments may be confusing and stressful, but we are here to support you every step of the way. And again, please visit our Supporting Our Global Community page for a wide range of information and resources.
Sincerely,
Sherif Barsoum,
Senior Associate Vice President, Global Services
