Community Colleges: Catalysts for Workforce Development

By Dr. Mautra Staley Jones
Workforce development has been an important topic among lawmakers, business leaders and community groups in Oklahoma.

Workers want to acquire the skills they need to be employable and qualified for better jobs and higher pay. They seek credentials that help them get hired and stay hired. But it’s more than that — workers also want to learn new skills that help them move up in position and pay.

Businesses want a qualified pool of talent to hire from, a workforce ready to perform in the company’s open positions. Businesses also want to keep their current workforce skilled and trained. Toy Collections at Oct. Rotary Meetings

During the month of October, our club will be collecting toy donations on behalf of Christmas Connection. Our board is excited to help support this community toy drive which will provide toys at no cost to 1,000 families this coming holiday season. While they gladly welcome any toy for children newborn up to 14, they are in most need of toys for 0-2 and 11-14. We’ll have a box available to receive those donations as you enter our meeting each week.

In taking part of WINGS of Rotary, students learn a new way of living, a great deal about themselves, and maybe even a new language. They will  be ambassadors, teaching people they meet about their country, culture, and ideas. Help bring the world closer - and make some good friends in the process.

More than 8,000 young people each year have experiences like these through Rotary Youth Exchanges. It's the opportunity of a lifetime. Do you know any students who would be interested?  Contact Keith Oehlert, District 5750 Wings Chair.     Application
