2020 Mason Graduate Interdisciplinary Conference: Call for Proposals

Submission Deadline: Friday, January 31 at 5:00pm
Mason's Graduate and Professional Student Association (GAPSA) invites students to participate in the 2020 Mason Graduate Interdisciplinary Conference on Friday, March 27, 2020. This one-day event will showcase graduate student research and scholarly and creative works across disciplines and also features Mason's Three-Minute Thesis (3MT®) competition.
Submit a proposal for a poster, oral, or visual/performing arts presentation by Jan. 31 at 5:00pm. Look at your recent research projects and papers and see what you can fashion into a proposal! This is also a great way to get feedback on early or late stages of your thesis or dissertation work!

Summer 2020 Research Fellowships

Summer Research Fellowships provide financial support to graduate students during the summer term, allowing students to devote significant time to their dissertation or thesis research. The intent of the award is to foster greater professional productivity and to assist in timely degree completion. Applicants must submit materials to the Office of the Provost application portal by Friday, January 24, 2020. If you have any questions, please email geaward@gmu.edu.

In this workshop, we’ll discuss what a professional brand is and outline steps to identify and create your own professional brand plan. We will also identify resources and strategies for networking and developing professional relationships in your field both in person and virtually. There will also be an opportunity to practice your elevator pitch

Three Minute Thesis (3MT®) Competition

Registration deadline Friday, February 7, 2020
Three Minute Thesis (3MT®) is a research communication competition where PhD candidates present their doctoral research to a non-specialist audience using only a single visual aid—all in three minutes. Finalists will compete at the annual Mason Graduate Interdisciplinary Conference on Friday, March  27, 2020, for over $2,000 in prize monies. 
Registration for the 2020 3MT® competition is open. Doctoral students who have advanced to candidacy by the registration deadline (February 2020) are eligible to participate.

Do You Love Data?

February 10-14, 2020, Fenwick Library, Room 270A (Fairfax Campus)

To celebrate Love Data Week (February 10-14, 2020), the Digital Scholarship Center (DiSC) will hold workshops to build your skills in data analysis and research data management. Join us to gain hands-on experience and learn about resources that can meet your data needs throughout the research process.
All the sessions will take place in the DiSC lab (Fenwick Library 2701A) starting at 1:00pm, with most having an encore at 5:00pm. Registration is recommended.

GRADUATE STUDENTS—Apply to join the 2020-2021 cohort of PROV 701: Preparing for Careers in the Academy. Are you a PhD or MFA (terminal degree) candidate interested in a career in higher education? Will you be on the job market, applying for academic positions during the 2020-21 or 2022-23 academic years?
PROV 701 is a FREE cohort-based program (Fall 2020–Spring 2021) that includes:
  • in-person/online discussions about the academic job market & career options;
  • opportunities to prepare cover letters, teaching philosophies, research statements, job talks, etc. and receive feedback;
  • one-on-one mentoring sessions, and more.
Application deadline is Monday, March 30, 2020.
