Hofstra University is excited to welcome Northwell Health President and CEO John D’Angelo to deliver the commencement address for the December ceremony. The Midyear 2025 Commencement will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, December 19, 2025, at the David S. Mack Sports and Exhibition Complex, North Campus. Nearly 800 Hofstra undergraduate and graduate degree candidates are expected to participate, having completed their program requirements in the summer or fall of 2025.
Dr. D’Angelo’s Northwell career spans more than 25 years. He oversees a complex network of 28 hospitals, over 1,000 outpatient facilities, and 104,000 employees, including 22,000 nurses and over 20,000 physicians, with an operating budget of $22.6 billion. Dr. D’Angelo is also a professor of emergency medicine at the Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell.

Resa B. Nelson ’26 was selected as a Rhodes Scholar, the first for Hofstra University. Established in 1903, the Rhodes Trust, which administers the Rhodes Scholar program, awards recipients with two years of postgraduate study at the University of Oxford in the U.K. Nelson, 21, was selected from among nine finalists representing the Commonwealth Caribbean, including Anguilla, Antigua, The Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, the British Virgin Islands, the Cayman Islands, Dominica, Grenada, Guyana, Montserrat, St Lucia, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Vincent, Trinidad and Tobago, and the Turks and Caicos Islands. Hofstra University unveiled plans to install a Freight Farms Greenery™ S hydroponic container farm on its North Campus as part of the University’s ongoing “Pride Farm” sustainability initiatives. The announcement was made at a legislative breakfast held on campus, Monday, November 17. The container farm is supported by New York State Senator Siela A. Bynoe. Read more here.

Hofstra University is pleased to announce the appointment of Ayana Allen-Handy, PhD, as dean of the School of Education, effective January 1, 2026. Dr. Allen-Handy is an accomplished educator and researcher who most recently served as Professor of Urban Education and Chair of the Department of Policy, Organization, and Leadership in the School of Education at Drexel University in Philadelphia. More than 50 members of the Girls Scouts of Nassau County visited Hofstra University to participate in the 10th Annual STEM Conference, which featured a variety of workshops and opportunities to meet Hofstra professors and professionals working in STEM fields. Read more here.

Hofstra students in Professor Jim Lee’s Painting: Exploration and Materials II class displayed their artwork at the first Breast Cancer Survivor Dinner, recently hosted by the Uniondale Empowerment Resource Center (UERC), in partnership with the American Legion Hall in Uniondale. The paintings, all featuring a theme of butterflies, were auctioned to raise funds for breast cancer awareness initiatives, including programs that support early detection, treatment, and medical research. On Saturday, November 15, hundreds of Hofstra University student volunteers gathered rakes and gardening tools and set out into the community to participate in the University’s annual Shake-A-Rake program. The event has grown to become Hofstra’s largest community outreach effort, sponsored by the Office of Commuting Student Services and Community Outreach, directed by Anita Ellis. Read more here.

The overwhelming joy found in human connections is captured in original black-and-white and color photography, creating an undeniable experience that lifts the spirit and fosters empathy and understanding. This exhibition celebrates his 50th anniversary of capturing decades of enduring images that inspire and empower. Artwork, cameras, and ephemera are drawn from his personal archive.
